Good afternoon. We need you as a New Orleans area member to contact local legislators who serve on the House Commerce Committee. HB953 will be heard in the committee within the next two weeks and we need to make sure that we have let the committee members know that PHCCLA is OPPOSED to this bill.

I have attached our talking points, a form letter you may use and PERSONALIZE to send by email, as well as call guidance for calls to the members. We encourage you to also share with your employees and apprentices to ask for their involvement in this grassroots effort.

Email and/or call the legislators. (Emails should go to both listed for the member - it will then go to his/her office and laptop.)
Let us know how your conversation went so we can then charge our lobbying team with follow up touches to your conversations.

PSA: IMPORTANT, ESPECIALLY IF YOU USE FLUSHABLE WIPES!

Yes, the package says flushable; however, it does NOT say biodegradable. These wipes get into your sewer pipes and septic tanks and they DO NOT break down. What they do cause are extreme clogs, slow-flushing toilets, slow-draining tubs, backups into your homes, and sometimes breaks in your sewer lines. (Google "flushable wipes in New York sewer." You'll be shocked.) Better yet, do this little test. Fill a jar with water and place a single "flushable" wipe in it. Put a lid on it and shake it every day for 30 days. If it doesn't start to break down, imagine what thousands of those look like in your septic tank (if you have a tank). They also get caught on any little imperfection inside the pipes, causing them to stack over time into a clog.
To recap, if it doesn't say biodegradable, it's not flushable. Ask a toddler - anything is flushable.
