Another new construction final inspection today, this time right here in Hartland! 🏠🔍

The house was looking great… the yard was a different story. 😂🌿

I was starting to wonder if a machete should be added to the inspection tool bag. Some of these weeds were 3–4 feet tall, but we made our way through them to inspect the exterior. Between the wet vegetation and mosquitoes, my pants were soaked by the time I was done. 🦟😂

All part of making sure our clients get a thorough inspection, inside AND out.

Building a new home? A third-party final inspection gives you another set of eyes before you move in. Already moved in and skipped the final inspection? An 11-month warranty inspection is another great opportunity to have the home checked before your builder warranty expires.

We’ve been doing quite a few new construction final inspections lately, especially around the Lake Country area. 🏠🔎

Even with a brand-new home, having an independent third party take a look before you move in can be incredibly valuable.

Most of what we find on new builds is exactly what you’d expect, punch-list items and things that simply need a little attention or finishing. But every once in a while, we find something more important that really should be addressed before the buyer takes possession.

You might be surprised by one of the most common things we find during a home inspection...

One of the most common things we find during home inspections isn't a roof leak or a furnace issue—it's older, outdated, or missing smoke alarms.

We also frequently find homes that are missing carbon monoxide (CO) alarms, especially outside sleeping areas or on every level of the home.

✅ Smoke and CO alarms are relatively inexpensive to replace, but they're among the most important safety devices in your home. It's a good idea to test them regularly, replace batteries as needed (if applicable), and replace older units that have reached the end of their service life.

Can you spot what’s missing in this video? 👀

During today’s home inspection in Waukesha, we found the radon mitigation system connected to the sump crock… but the lid was sitting off to the side instead of being sealed.

A radon mitigation system works by creating suction beneath the home. If the sump crock isn’t properly sealed, radon gas can bypass the system and reduce its effectiveness.

It’s a simple fix, but an easy one to overlook.

If your home has a radon mitigation system, take 30 seconds to check your sump pit. A properly sealed lid helps the system do the job it was designed to do.

With this recent heat wave, your A/C is working overtime! Before you call for an expensive repair, here are the Top 3 things you can do today to help prevent breakdowns and improve efficiency. ❄️

✅ 1. Check your furnace filter.
A dirty, plugged, or overly restrictive filter is one of the most common causes of poor airflow. Reduced airflow can make your system work harder, increase energy costs, and even cause the indoor evaporator coil to freeze.

✅ 2. Keep your supply and return vents open. Blocking
or closing too many registers doesn't save energy—it restricts airflow. That can reduce efficiency, increase wear on your system, and contribute to a frozen A/C coil.

✅ 3. Clean the outdoor condenser.
With the power turned off, gently rinse the condenser fins with a garden hose to remove dirt, grass clippings, and debris. Better airflow through the outdoor unit helps your A/C cool more efficiently during extreme heat.
