Ferrick Mason’s beautiful pattern named “Good Fortune” is one of my personal favorites. This pattern with fire breathing dragons and beautiful Herron on a vine pattern is just simply stunning. Tobie of Happy Hive design in Ridgewood ,NJ wanted a change in her powder room at her home. A new vanity will be added tomorrow!

That was a waste of a day…I first opened the first roll of dining paper and was immediately struck with a skid mark that was 8’ long. I immediately stopped work and contacted the designer, who then called the rep, who then called the company.

I switched gears and went into the kitchen to do an accent wall. I put up 6 sheets off of two rolls. The homeowner came in and ooo’d and ahhh’d. I continued with 6 more sheets. Stood back while prepping to cut more material and noticed the paneled effect. The customer came in and asked if it would go away. Unfortunately, I cannot tell if it is a print issue or the material soaking in the moisture of the paste and darkening.

I was instructed to stop the kitchen, open 3 bolts of the dining paper to inspect. They were damage free, but I couldn’t open more without authorization, so it was quitting time. Hopefully rectified soon!

Done!! This room as described in previous posts has taken a week and 2 days to complete. It started with a thorough covering of the floor with Ram board to make sure no damage happened. The walls and furniture were covered with plastic again to protect from damage. Then the ceiling was scraped to remove the existing wallcovering, once the top cork and foil were removed it was decided to use Guardz primer to lock in the remaining paper, primer, and joint compound. Then skim coat with Fibafuse, a second skim coat, dustless sanding with my Mirka hand sander, wiping the ceiling to remove surface dust, a second heavy coat of Guardz primer, and finally a thorough inspection of the material and installation of this beautiful Thibaut cork wallcovering. This was the 4th attempt (I did the first original install and 4th complete reinstall after 2 failed attempts by other installers) to get this right.

PSA: if you are doing a project like this…be sure that the electrical is where you want it, the box will hold the weight of the fixture, and no other modifications will be wanted.

Making progress! After a morning of material inspection by the interior designer and the homeowner I was finally able to start installing. Unfortunately, with the late start I would not be able to complete the project today, so we will finish tomorrow.

Originally done September 2025, stripped off August 2026. The ceiling has now got a coat of Guardz primer on it, and then a coat of joint compound with one of my favorite products Fibafuse embed in it. Tomorrow another skim coat and fix heavier areas. Then sand, prime, and reinstall…

If you follow me you may remember this ceiling wallpaper job I did about a year ago. After my install the light fixture required additional support, so the electrician cut a hole in the ceiling. I was not able to do the project as I was on a large whole house project at the time, so they brought in a different crew/installer. The homeowner was not happy (understandably) as there was paste all over the paper. Today we spent hours scraping off all the poorly installed material, tomorrow we will use Guardz primer to lock it all down, Fibafuse and joint compound to make it smooth, and then re-prime, and Re-install new material.

Another project for my friends at Happy Hive Design in Ridgewood NJ. This new basement powder room has yet to have fixtures installed but the paper looks stunning! I took time to balance the pattern top and bottom of the wall and I think it paid off.
