With all this rain, it feels like fall is just around the corner… and fall means MUSHROOMS!

Come join Garden Nerds at the Hayden Library and learn how to grow your own Blue Oyster mushrooms at home.

This is a fun, hands-on workshop where you’ll learn the basics of mushroom growing and make your own 5-lb grow bag to take home. With a little care, you could be harvesting fresh oyster mushrooms in about 3 weeks!

Not every flower is meant to become a squash.

This handsome fellow is a male squash flower. His entire job is to open up, make some pollen, attract a bee or two…and call it a day.

The female flowers are the ones with a tiny baby squash waiting just behind the blossom. Once pollen makes its way from him to her, that’s when the magic happens.

We tend to look at a vegetables for what it gives us.

The tomato.
The zucchini.
The harvest.

But there’s a whole lot of life happening before we ever get to eat anything.

Sometimes it’s worth sticking your nose in a squash flower and nerding out about it.
