After a cooler-than-normal spring, the Bermuda is finally starting to show out across North Alabama. Warmer temps and longer days are waking these lawns up fast, and that deep green color is starting to pop. We’re excited to see yards transition from spring recovery into full growing season. 🌱☀️

The unusually cool spring we’ve experienced across North Alabama has significantly slowed Bermuda grass green-up and growth. Bermuda thrives in consistently warm soil temperatures, and with cooler nights and delayed daytime heat, turf is taking longer than normal to fully wake up from dormancy.

While some lawns may appear thin, patchy, or slower to recover, warmer temperatures are the main ingredient needed to push active growth. As soil temps continue to rise, Bermuda will begin filling in, spreading, and responding more aggressively to fertilizer and irrigation.

Our Round 3 application is designed to help encourage that transition by supplying the turf with the nutrients it needs as growing conditions improve. This round helps stimulate growth, improve color, and support overall turf recovery as Bermuda begins actively growing heading into the warmer part of the season.

Clogged Gutters = Bigger Problems Than You Think

When your gutters aren’t flowing, the damage doesn’t just stay on your roof—it spreads everywhere.

🌧️ Around Your Home: • Water overflows and can damage your roof, fascia, and siding
• Pooling water near the foundation can lead to cracks and costly repairs
• Increased risk of basement or crawlspace moisture issues

🌱 On Your Lawn: • Poor drainage leads to soggy soil and weak turf
• Creates ideal conditions for fungus and disease
• Washes away nutrients your lawn needs to stay healthy
• Causes erosion and uneven ground over time
• Uneven areas that hold moisture bring on areas where pre emergents cant effectively stop w**ds that thrive in wet soil!

✅ The Bottom Line:
Clean gutters and proper drainage protect both your home and your lawn.

Don’t wait until you see damage—by then it’s already costing you.

🌱 Spring Transition Tips 🌱

What you do now determines how your lawn looks all summer.

✔️ Mow every 7 days
Helps thicken turf, promote lateral growth, control w**ds, and break down leftover thatch so new growth can come through strong.

✔️ Water 3 days per week (deep)
Avoid daily watering. Deep watering builds stronger roots and a healthier lawn.

Stay consistent now for a greener, thicker lawn all season. 🌿

🌱 Round 3 Fertilizer Is Here – Time To Wake Your Grass Up! 🌱

We’re officially kicking off Round 3 fertilizer applications, and this is one of the most important steps in getting your lawn to fully green up and thrive this season.
But here’s the key 👇

👉 Watering:
Set your irrigation to 3 days per week with deep, thorough soakings. This helps activate the fertilizer and promotes strong root growth
👉 Mowing:
Stick to a consistent 5–7 day mowing schedule. Regular cutting keeps your turf thick, healthy, and helps prevent w**ds from taking over.

When you combine proper watering + consistent mowing, you’ll see:
✔️ Faster, smoother green-up
✔️ Thicker, healthier turf
✔️ Better w**d control throughout the season

There’s no “one and done” in lawn care — it’s all about consistency. Stay on schedule, and your lawn will show it.

Now is the time to scalp your Bermuda!

Scalping removes the built-up thatch layer and all that dormant, dead material sitting on top of the soil. This allows sunlight, air, and nutrients to reach the base of the plant where new growth actually happens.

Bermuda doesn’t grow off last year’s dormant layer — it grows from fresh, new shoots. If you leave that layer in place, you’re slowing down your green-up and creating the perfect environment for disease and fungus.

Benefits of scalping: • Speeds up spring green-up
• Removes thatch and winter debris
• Improves soil contact for nutrients and sunlight
• Helps reduce disease and fungus pressure

Bag it, clean it up, and let that turf wake up the right way.

Why your bermuda isn’t green yet
Even though it’s warming up outside, bermuda responds to soil temperature—not air temp. In Alabama, our clay soils hold moisture and stay cooler longer, especially overnight.

So while we’re seeing 70° days, soil temps can still be in the 50s—and bermuda typically needs 55–60°+ consistently to break dormancy.

That’s why:
Sunny lawns are greening up first ☀️
Shaded or heavy clay areas are still brown

Give it a little more time—green-up will pick up as soil temps rise 👍

Round 2 is Underway – Time to Start Lowering Your Mowing Height 🌱

After your Round 2 Pre & Post Emergent Herbicide application, now is the perfect time to gradually begin lowering your mowing height on dormant Bermuda or Zoysia turf.
Lowering the height slowly over the next few weeks helps:
• Open the turf canopy so herbicides reach the soil more effectively
• Allow more sunlight to pe*****te the grass base
• Reduce excess thatch buildup
• Prepare the lawn for April’s spring scalp

By easing the height down a little at a time, you help prevent stress on the turf while setting the stage for a faster, healthier green-up once temperatures rise.

Taking these steps now will help ensure your lawn wakes up thick, green, and w**d-free this spring.
