Big thanks to Ed Rehmus with East Hazel Saddlery for the custom Z Spray leather saddle bags. I have had one in use for a while, and have reached the time of year I needed to add the second.

I tote several small pieces of equipment around from hand sprayers and spreaders to blowers while treating yards day to day. While the Z SPRAY machine has factory fertilizer trays, there are a couple reasons they dont fit as well for my specific needs. Over the years I have used the normal duct tape and bailing wire ideas for equipment racks. Some worked well, others not so much.

I needed something extremely tough that could hold the equipment day to day, as well as last the elements. I also needed holders that could lay flat for transport on my truck. I eventually got the idea leather might be used, and turned to my old cowboy friend, and leather craftsman Ed for help.

I believe Ed normally works with more decorative pieces, and custom equestrian tack, so these were a little more simple. Ed took a great deal of pride in the job though, spending a little extra time to look at the equipment, and even take a sprayer to his shop to ensure the finished product would fit the Z SPRAY spreader sprayer machine, and be the correct size for everything.

We try and condition the bags every so often with normal leather conditioner products, however these take a day to day beating, so they will have a few scuffs and scars here and there as time goes on. So far though they are holding up well and working perfectly.

I think its important to share this information from time to time. I have seen several unlicensed individuals and companies advertising pesticide services on Facebook lately. Im not mad at these folks, the few of us with the proper license simply cannot spray it all, but here are the facts.

There are countless mowing, landscaping, and property maintenance companies located, and working inside Calloway County. Currently, only nine that I count has the proper license to apply turf, or ornamental pesticides for hire. (Catagory 3.) These nine have passed a written test, paid the yearly license fee, attend yearly continuing education classes, keep, and provide the homeowner with application records per the law, ect. These nine must keep, store, and apply pesticides according to the written letter of the law, and are also inspected regularly by the state department of agriculture to ensure all laws are followed.

So is that person, or company you just hired legally applying pesticide on your property? Well if they are not registered and have a current license in the State of Kentucky the simple answer is no.

Kentucky stopped printing yearly licenses, and requiring professional applicators to carry them a few years ago, however, a simple Google search will provide a list of all current licensed pesticide operators and applicators, both statewide and in each county. Simply Google, "Kentucky Department of Agriculture pesticide applicators license by name ". Similar Google searches will open the official page as well.

We are witnessing our warmest April on record. 3 of our 5 climate sites are projected to break their warmest April by at least 2 degrees, while Carbondale will be a close call. Temperatures have routinely been in the 80s (at least a dozen times with several more still possible). An average April observes around 4 to 6 days reaching 80.

Breaking Weather: All of Calloway County is now in a D3 drought which means an extreme drought. We are 15 inches of rain below normal since November. Please be extremely cautious if you must burn anything.
