NAWIC Baltimore Chapter #135

NAWIC Baltimore Chapter #135 About NAWIC The National Association of Women in Construction (NAWIC)
originally began as Women in Construction of Fort Worth, Texas. state.

It was founded in 1953 by 16 women working in the construction industry. Knowing that women represented only a small fraction of the construction industry, the founders organized NAWIC to create a support network. Women in Construction of Fort Worth was so successful that it gained its national charter in 1955 and became the National Association of Women in Construction. NAWIC has a membership of

more than 4,500 and approximately 167 chapters, with chapters in almost every U.S. Since 1996, NAWIC has seen its Core Purpose grow worldwide and has International Affiliation Agreements with the Canadian Association of Women in Construction, NAWIC-Australia, NAWIC-New Zealand, NAWIC-United Kingdom and South African Women in Construction. In NAWIC’s 55 years of service to its membership, NAWIC has advanced the causes of all women in construction, from tradeswomen to business owners. For more than 50 years, NAWIC has helped women take advantage of the opportunities in construction. Whether you want to embark on a new career, establish a networking base, be a mentor/mentee, make a difference in your community, continue your education, or invest in great friendships, NAWIC offers a variety of opportunities undefined large and small. Savvy NAWIC members, business owners and managers can expect value from their investment in NAWIC. NAWIC membership affords many opportunities.

Another day filled with excitement for our ambitious campers! We kicked off our AM with a field trip to ARCO Design/Build in Columbia and spent the afternoon with equipment simulators from Gray & Son Inc. and Carter Machinery. It’s safe to say our campers left exhausted after a day of fun and hands-on learning. Thank you to our sponsors for making today great!

Our campers enjoyed a tool demonstration from Milwaukee Tool and craft professional rotations by our incredible sponsors from Ariosa & Company, Benchmark Construction Company, and Knott Mechanical, Inc.

The girls are already saying they want to come back next year. Stay tuned for what comes tomorrow!

See exciting grant announcement below from the Women's Bureau of the US Department of Labor!

2022 FUNDING OPPORTUNITY ANNOUNCEMENT: Women in Apprenticeship and Nontraditional Occupations Grant Program
The U.S. Department of Labor today announced a funding opportunity of $3.4 million for up to nine grants to attract and keep women in Registered Apprenticeship Programs and industries where they are underrepresented such as manufacturing, infrastructure, cybersecurity and healthcare.

Administered by the Department’s Employment and Training Administration and Women’s Bureau, the Women in Apprenticeship and Nontraditional Occupations (WANTO) grant program supports community-based organizations in their efforts to recruit, train, and retain more women in Registered Apprenticeships and nontraditional occupations.

While women make up nearly half the U.S. labor force, they comprise only 13 percent of Registered Apprentices.
Registered Apprenticeships are a pathway for workers to the middle class. They also help employers to recruit, develop, and retain a highly skilled and diverse workforce. While this earn-while-you-learn model has a long history in skilled trades, such as construction, emerging, high-growth industries like manufacturing, infrastructure, cybersecurity and healthcare are increasingly using Registered Apprenticeships to strengthen their workforce.

Applications are due by June 20, 2022.
