This scenario highlights the importance of obtaining proper permits for work done in your home. Last year, we replaced a septic system as part of a real estate transaction. This spring, the new homeowner contacted us about septic water surfacing in the yard. We returned to inspect the system and found that everything was functioning as it should—yet wastewater was still appearing on the ground.

After further investigation inside the home, we discovered an unpermitted bathroom with plumbing running through a crawl space. This connection had been concealed during Inspections and was illegally tied into the old septic system through a separate pipe that exited the house independent of the main line connection. There were no records of this bathroom with the town or health department, and it had been overlooked during both the home and septic inspections prior to the sale. This improperly installed connection is likely the cause of the original system failure as it had been dumping solid waste directly into the old dry well.

We removed and properly abandoned the illegal line, then reconnected it correctly to the new septic system at no cost to the homeowner. Give us a call for all your septic and excavation needs.

Wet muddy mess we tackled this past week, dug out prepped and poured concrete pads for standby generator and propane tank, underground service dug from generator pad to house for electricians to install conduit. Repaired a previously broken drain line and regraded the yard so ground water drains to the catch basin on site. Site is ready for gas Co to install tank.
