Not Sew Serious

Not Sew Serious Always Leave Enough Room For Your Muse To Dance My name is Tracey, I am an experienced fabric fiddler and sewing diva for several decades now.

I am a completely self-taught Quilter (Crazy and Sane) and Heirloom Sewer. I have about 35 years acquiring skills in both. This page is for my various projects and to showcase the quilt designs I hope to soon have Market Ready. You never know what I'll be working on next as my 'muse' tends to be restless a lot. But I can promise it will never be boring here.

Never stop

11/30/2019

As some of you know, these last two years of Medical Misadventures, really took a toll on managing this page. As my health finally improved, I had hoped this year 2019, would be a better start.
That wasn't to be either.

In February of this year, my son Thomas was suddenly diagnosed with Small Cell Squamous Lung Cancer. He had surgery to remove the tumor and it looked like he could make a full recovery. Sadly that was not the case. Mid August, his condition took a sudden and drastic turn for the worse. It ended with us having to take him off of life support and let him go.
He was 31.

A week after we buried Thomas, my husband left for a year on his scheduled Deployment to the Middle East.
It has been a long journey getting my focus and will to create back after those traumatic events.
My "plan" is to review projects pending on this page and start fresh in 2020. If you have stuck with me this long, please know that I have not forgotten you and thank you for your patience.
Exciting new things are coming.
Tracey

If you landed here looking for the Heirloom and Smocking video Tutorials, you're in the right place. I'm working out the concept over the next few months and will be posting very soon on the links for the kit and video for the first lesson. :-) Be sure to check back. The details will also be posted in the various doll clothes groups I belong to. This is the outfit for the first lesson. It uses the very basic smocking stitches that other stitches are built from.

Free Caboodle of Kittens Quilt
I designed this quilt and the altered block within a block about 15 years ago. I decided to post it as a freebie as I have far more quilts designed than I can ever make.
I do have an EQ file for this quilt. Download available for the asking. I haven't gotten any feedback yet on how well it works in a WIndows 7 Environment The quilt was designed on EQ5.
You will need to know how to Paper Piece to do these.
Paper piecing diagrams are here. Each segment has a letter, each part of a segment has a number. Follow the numbers to assemble the segment then sew the segments together to make the cat.

It's a great way to use up scraps in the center designs! I also included a blank grid block to put your own block design into if you like.

I've been working out the kinks in a new design.
I absolutely need to wrap up some of the older ones as well. I work on them also as alternate projects.
I'm still using Double Wedding Ring and Quiltsmart's Interfacings to help with accuracy and ease of completion. I tried and really like how using Moda Batiks French Lace II from a few years back, and metallic over-washed hand dyes for accents would make the blocks really standout. Fabrics to be used and some sample blocks shown below. The last photo? Well lets just say that quilting and heart medication aren't the best mix. lol

These are the three quilts I am considering. I don't know if I can finish or enter all three so I'll probably just pick two and go from there. ALL of these make use of Double Wedding Ring Arcs and I will be using Quiltsmarts' Double Wedding Ring Interfacing System to make them.
The first one is Called "Stardust". It's made up of DWR arcs and State Fair blocks (Kind of appropriate lol). I have the Dusty toned Hand dyes all ready for this one.
The second one is telling me to call it Gypsy Dancer or something similar. I am feeling strongly it should be done in my collection of sari silk scraps. The Dresden Plate arcs just insist on looking like they would be colorful whirling skirts. I haven't been able to determine a good color/backing fabric to applique the silks onto yet. Suggestions welcomed.
The third one reminds me very strongly of the fancy window screens in places like Marrakesh, Morocco. This was a rough design so the arcs don't all have the same number of wedges in them but the finished design will. I haven't been able to settle on a color scheme for this one. Suggestions and ideas are encouraged.
So there we have the quilts. :-)

We're safe here on Big Bend Mountain. My husband and daughter are here with me and my son Tom was rescued along with others very early this morning from his flooded trailer park.
At this time my family here is still not together due to miles of flood water and wreckage between his location in White Sulphur Springs, WV and any road out of ours here in Hinton, WV.
It will be days to a week before travel can be restored. We were very lucky to escape the flooding and most of the storms up here but we are confined to a very small area we can get to if we leave the mountain.
Southern West Virginia is a wreckage, you need only to look at the video or photos the news services are showing. At this time the fatalities have reached 23 including two young children. More than 100 homes are a total loss, many more are seriously damaged and the towns around us including our own range in damage from severe to catastrophic.
Please say a prayer for those still waiting in the dark to be found, those trapped in inaccessible locations and those who have lost everything. It's a very dark time here.

UPDATE: We went to get Tommy so now we're all up here. He's itching to go home to see how bad the damage is at his trailer and storage unit but I told him to wait a bit until things settle down more.

Progress so far. All of the Dresden pieces are cut and half the arcs for the DWR Rings.
I took these photos on my design wall. The Dresden rings will be beautiful but look much too large to me. I suspect something went awry with EQ and my calculations. :-/ We may end up with a really pretty bed quilt and it'll be back to the drawing board for the tree skirt. Well this is why we do a test run, right? Otherwise, I am very happy with how it's looking.
The full ring isn't in the correct color order, I just filled it all in to get an idea of how the fabrics will look together. The yellow infant dress is my own design. It was banished to the studio for vexing me. lol I'll get it worked out eventually.
