Start a written log of every interaction you have with your insurance company. Write down the date, time, and details of every call, email, or visit. This will help you stay organized and track your claim's progress.

In Florida, courts have ruled that itโs legal for homeowners to record an insurance adjusterโs inspection โ use this to your advantage! This creates a detailed record of their assessment and any discussions about the damage, which can be useful if discrepancies arise later. In your handwritten log, be sure to notate any statements the adjuster made during his or her visit.

Remember, your mortgage company will be included on any insurance payments related to your house structure. Payments for Personal Property or Additional Living Expenses will be issued directly to you, but repairs to the home itself will involve the mortgage company. Contact your mortgage companyโs โLoss Draftโ department for more information.

Many insurance companies will request a โProof of Lossโ form, which youโll need to fill out and submit within a certain time frame. Donโt delay โ check your policy or speak with your adjuster to ensure you meet this deadline.
By taking these steps, youโll be better prepared to navigate the claims process and get your life back on track! Insurance companies have become increasingly more difficult to deal with, so prepare for the long game!
