I was looking for a new computer because my old faithful laptop (Dell Latitude 6430) which is still very capable is just a little too bulky and I needed something a little more portable especially to go on jobs with.

I found this amazing deal on Amazon that I wanted to bring to everyone’s attention. Now I am currently using it as we speak and I can say with the utmost certainty that this is one hell of a bargain. So enter the Dell Latitude 7390.

The specs are crazy good and for $345 plus tax I almost feel like I stole this. It comes with a Core i7 8650u processor (4 cores - 8 threads) with a 512gb NVME SSD 16 gb of DDR4 ram, Thunderbolt 3 port, HDMI port 2 USB 3.0 ports, a smart card slot, micro SD slot SIM card slot, audio jack, Gigabit Ethernet port, Touch screen and a Noble lock for securing the laptop to an anti-theft cable.

It has a really rugged design and doesn’t feel cheap at all. It has a backlit keyboard and everything is really snappy and feels great to type on. It’s a 13.3 inch size and i am just astounded by how powerful this thing is.

Yes it is a few generations older as far as CPU but it is still a very capable machine that can last for a few years. If it’s anything like my older (which is 10 years old and still kicking) I am confident this will last me a good while.

Yes this machine is refurbished but when it got to me it looked like it had just been taken off the shelf brand new and sent to me. I have done some preliminary testing and I can find nothing wrong with it.

I am posting this to bring awareness to those on a budget that need a decent machine for school, work, home etc. that you don’t have to spend an arm and a leg and it’s ok to buy refurbished. If it gets you a few years of good use it’s worth it.

This laptop when it first came out was $2400. This is in fact a bargain. So if you need a computer jump on this and go get it. I am not endorsed nor am I getting paid to review this. I wanted to let everyone know that follows me in case they need a damn good laptop that doesn’t break the bank especially in these times.

For all your technical needs (including but not limited to computer work) give me a call. I’ll be happy to meet with you. Thank you for your support.

Recently I came into a bunch of IT related equipment for pretty cheap and decided to set some of it up today.

People tend to think that a server is this big closet with a rack full of switches, patch panels, hot-swapable storage drives and miles of Cat 5 or Cat 6 Ethernet cabling going through your house. But In reality it doesn’t have to be that complicated. For home use you don’t need all of that to have a centralized storage server. If you have an older laptop or desktop you just have lying around you can make a server out of that.

What I set up today consists of an old Asus G74SX gaming laptop that was collecting dust. It has a USB 3.0 port which was perfect for the next item. I have an external monitor for obvious reasons but it also serves another purpose. It has multiple display hookups so that I can also use it as a test area to troubleshoot desktops and laptops.

The next item I set up is a Probox Multi-drive bay with a USB 3.0 interface. It has 2 -4TB drives a 6TB drive and a 500gb drive. The internal storage on the laptop has a 120gb SSD for the boot drive and a 650gb apartment drive. So if you do the math I am close to 15 TB of storage on my network. This is what is called NAS (Network Attached Storage)

I had to do some configuration to share the drives but that’s part of the fun.

If you have an external hard drive and have a USB port on your router after logging into your Router and adjusting some settings you can also do that as well. The benefit to doing a NAS is that as long as you have a good network password set up that is secure your server will be fine. But always practice good cyber security habits when it comes to your network.

The transfer speeds will depend on how your NAS is configured. I have mine strictly going over Wi-Fi so speeds will vary and the USB 3.0 will help. But I am at the mercy of my Wi-Fi card in my laptop.

Hard wiring is obviously the better option but with the advent of the Wi-Fi 6 (ax) protocol Wi-Fi speeds have gotten significantly faster.

If you want a consultation on your current network or any other IT related needs give me a call. Thank you for your support.

Thank you to everyone that has liked and followed my business page. Just to give a little information on the services I offer. Facebook lacks in the customization department.

I perform technical services and technical consultation on subjects such as computer repair and troubleshooting as well as installation of IT related infrastructure. I also perform installation of home theater systems, Security camera systems, mounting TV’s etc.

If you want to identify gaps in your quality processes and need someone to perform an audit I do that as well.

I am also available for handyman work as well. If you need the job done and done right let me be the person you call. No job is too small.

Thanks again and I look forward to working with anyone who wishes to use my services.
