If the brick above your door or garage is cracking, check the lintel.

That horizontal steel angle above openings is called a lintel.
Its job is to support the brick veneer.

When steel rusts, it expands.
When it expands, it pushes the brick.
That pressure causes cracking, mortar separation, and staining.

This is not just cosmetic.
It’s exterior maintenance that gets ignored until repairs get expensive.

If you see rust stains or cracking above windows, doors, or garage openings, it’s time to clean, prime, and paint the lintel to slow corrosion.

Maintenance is always cheaper than masonry repair.

I go get the ironing board, the starch, lay out the BDUs, put some water in the iron, and commence to getting my “Starchie Lee” on. Steam billowing all over the place, Im on auto pilot. I done this a million times.

I look up, and it’s bout 60 recruits staring at me in silence.
I say “what tf yall looking at me for?” Then I got bum rushed, errbody talmbot “TEACH MEEEEE PLEEEAAAASSSEEE!!!!!!”.

The only one, not asking for help, was Russell, the other Brother 🤣🤣🤣🤣
