Water doesn't have to cover your whole yard to cause a problem.

Sometimes it's just one low spot behind the house that stays soggy after every rain.
For this project, we installed a 6-inch drainage line, connected the gutter downspouts into the system, and added 12-inch catch basins to collect surface water before it had a chance to pool. We also cut the concrete to install a custom channel drain where runoff naturally flowed downhill.

None of these pieces solve the problem on their own.

But when they work together, water has a clear path away from the home instead of sitting where it doesn't belong.

New sod gets all the attention.

The soil underneath it does most of the work.

For this project, we started by removing the old lawn, then added a fresh yard mix to improve the soil before the new sod was installed. Healthy roots need more than water—they need the right foundation.

Once the sod was down, we adjusted the sprinkler system to make sure every section was getting the coverage it needs. Even the best sod won't establish if some areas are getting too much water while others are drying out.

A green lawn doesn't happen because of one good watering.

It happens because the soil, the irrigation, and the grass are all working together.

The best time to solve a drainage problem is before the patio is poured.

This backyard is getting a new patio, but before any concrete goes down, we're installing a 6-inch drain line and a new irrigation system. Once that patio is finished, making changes underneath it becomes a whole lot harder—and a whole lot more expensive.

A project like this is a good reminder that landscaping isn't just about what you see when it's done. The work below the surface is what keeps water moving away from your home and your investment looking the way it should for years to come.
The patio will get all the compliments.

This drain line probably won't.

And that's exactly how it's supposed to be.
