Yesterday, I got a trusted client who called me to build him an 8 feet CMU Block Dumpster pad and need it pretty urgent. I jump into my computer and within 3 minutes, submit my estimate of $9,500. By the end of the day, I was notified that I won the job. Here is how I did it.
Open ChatGPT and type this: In Mississippi, what is the price to build an 8" cmu block dumpster 6 feet high by 12 feet long by 10 feet wide. We will have two wooden gate as well.
Here is what it wrote:
Building an 8" CMU (concrete masonry unit) block dumpster enclosure that's 6 feet high by 12 feet long by 10 feet wide, with two wooden gates, involves multiple cost components. Here's a breakdown of how you might estimate the price:
1. **Materials**:
* **CMU Blocks**: As of my last update in January 2022, CMU blocks might cost anywhere from $1 to $3 each for standard weight 8" blocks. Prices can vary based on location, quantity, and specific type of block.
* **Mortar and Reinforcement**: You'll need mortar mix, rebar, and possibly grout.
* **Wooden Gates**: Costs can vary greatly based on the type of wood, the design of the gates, and the hardware (hinges, latches, etc.). As a rough estimate, simple wooden gates can range from $100 to $500 or more each.
* **Other Materials**: This might include aggregates for the foundation or footing, drainage, paint or sealant, etc.
2. **Labor**:
* Labor costs vary depending on the region and specific contractors, but you might expect to pay anywhere from $30 to $80 per hour (or more) for skilled masonry labor. The size and complexity of your project will determine how many hours or days of labor you'll need.
3. **Site Preparation and Foundations**:
* Depending on the ground conditions, you might need to excavate, add aggregate, or pour a concrete foundation. This can add additional costs in terms of both labor and materials.
4. **Miscellaneous Costs**:
* Always account for additional costs such as tool rentals, transportation, and possible permit fees.
Given all these variables, here's a very rough estimate for your project in Mississippi:
* **Materials**:
* CMU Blocks (assuming 2 blocks/sq.ft and 30% wastage) = (6*12 + 6*10 + 6*12) x 2 x $2/block = $1,296 (Note: This calculation does not include blocks for the foundation)
* Mortar, Rebar, Grout: $500
* Wooden Gates: 2 x $250 = $500
* Other Materials: $300
* **Labor**:
* Assuming 5 days of labor for two workers at $50/hour (8-hour days): 5 days x 2 workers x 8 hours/day x $50/hour = $4,000
* **Site Preparation and Foundations**: $1,000 (This can vary greatly)
Total Rough Estimate = $1,296 + $500 + $500 + $300 + $4,000 + $1,000 = $7,596
Please note, this is a very rough estimate, and actual costs can vary greatly based on many factors. It's always best to get a few quotes from local contractors to get an accurate estimate for your specific project and location.
