Texas Slab Guys was hired by Escalante Golf, the prestigious operator of four Houston-area golf courses, including PGA event venue Golf Club of Houston, to correct a number of unruly bumps and elevation changes along the cart paths.

Instead of unnecessary replacement, we leveled the existing concrete to create smoother transitions and a more comfortable ride throughout the course.

Another great project in the books with JS Commercial Roofing. They'd just purchased their building and needed plumbing added to a section of the first floor that never had it. Once that trench was open, we came in for the concrete side — backfill, haul-away, a new pour, and a finish matched to the existing slab so you can't tell where the work was done. Texas Slab Guys was recently featured by Certified MTP in an article examining why reinforced concrete fails—and how new Rice University research could change the way the industry approaches concrete durability.

Written by Texas Slab Guys Founder and President Jeff Price, the article explores how water and chloride ions travel through concrete at the molecular level and eventually contribute to corrosion of the embedded steel reinforcement. This process is especially relevant in Houston and other coastal environments, where humidity, salt exposure, and moisture can accelerate concrete cracking, spalling, and deterioration.

The article also discusses what the research could mean for concrete contractors, structural engineers, inspectors, materials-testing professionals, and property owners. A better understanding of chloride pe*******on may ultimately support more durable concrete mix designs, improved testing standards, longer service life, and fewer costly replacements.

As a Rice University graduate and the founder of a Houston-based concrete company, Jeff connects emerging materials science with the concrete problems Texas property owners encounter in the real world.
