Soaring Sun Gardens I'm not a professional gardener but it is a passion. Join me as I share Nature's artistry My name is Pam and I live in Illinois, surrounded by corn fields.

I have always enjoyed playing in the dirt and now it's become a passion. I learn as I go. Some things work, some things do not. On this page, I will be holding weekly "Flower Tours", during which I will share up close photos of various floral beauties from my gardens. We get cold and snowy here in Illinois and while flowers are not viable outdoors during the winter here, Nature's beauty is still all around so plan to see photos from all seasons. It's war!!!! Let me introduce the # 1 flying A-hole in the gardens this year. I know others say that wasps are the #1 flying A-hole but for me, it's these Japanese beetles. I've had them in past years, but goodness they are thick this year. I have a beautiful Linden tree and it is apparently part of the citrus family. When it blooms, the aroma is intoxicating. Well unfortunately that must attract these little jerks. I have had years when the Linden was almost stripped and rose bushes stripped. This year these little idiots are also taking out my geraniums and black eyed susans. So, I have declared war and I think I'm winning.

I had resisted getting traps in the past as some say they attract more of these little idiots. I try to avoid using bug sprays or powders as I'm so afraid of killing bees or butterflies. Well my mom had really good success with the traps last year so I decided to try them. I mean after all, how do they know the traps are attracting more bugs to your yard? Did they collect addresses??? Doubtful!! And who cares from where they came, if they are in the trap!! They are an issue no matter who's yard they are in, right??

Rose ICU update:
Rose #1: this Rose has been reclassified as in need of TLC but no longer needing the ICU. He has one cane that is 2 feet tall and many more sprouts. No buds yet so well see if he blooms this year.

Rose #2: this Rose is still an ICU patient BUT there is finally new growth!! I think another little bud is even forming. I am now hopeful that this guy will survive. Not out of the woods yet.
