Our Home Addition Diaries: Final update before the big reveal

We’re still waiting on floors, but almost all the furniture has arrived — so yes, we’re currently using beautiful new spaces with furniture sitting on moving blankets over concrete.

And honestly, we don’t even care. The new spaces already feel amazing.

The upstairs bedroom came together just in time for guests, wallpaper is going into the guest bath this week, and the office is next… once the internet finally reaches my desk so I can stop working from the hallway.

We’re SO close now. Next update = the full reveal and photo shoot.

Our Home Addition Diaries Update

We’re deep in the details phase now—trim work, paint prep, and lots of real-time tweaks to plans once we’re standing in the space.

Inside, things are a little gritty (hello sanding dust and protective tarps).

Outside, it’s finally starting to feel like home again.

And our beloved 11-foot dining table has been refinished and is ready to come home, which somehow feels symbolic of this whole process.

It’s messy, inconvenient, and exhausting… but we’re so close.

Ten years ago, John Merrill Homes began in a home office with glass doors. Dana was holding the young family together while Adam was trying to get the business off the ground.

A lot has changed in ten years. Our family has grown up, the team has grown, and our business has grown.

But our core values haven’t changed.

We still believe in doing things the right way.
We still believe the small details matter.
And we still believe building a home is really about building trust.
