“Why should I spend that much on stain when I can buy something cheaper?”

We understand this question. When you’re looking at several gallons of stain, the difference in price can add up quickly.

But with a log home, the cheapest product on the shelf isn’t always the least expensive choice in the long run.

Logs expand and contract as temperatures and moisture levels change. Sashco products are specifically formulated for log and timber homes.

🪵 For example, Capture Log Stain is designed to move with the wood rather than crack or peel, while helping protect against moisture and UV damage. When used with Cascade Clear Coat, future maintenance can often mean refreshing the protective clear coat where needed instead of stripping everything back to bare wood and starting over.

And that’s where the real savings can come in.

The cost of stain is only one part of a staining job. Cleaning, stripping, sanding, labor, equipment and repairs can become far more expensive than the difference between a quality product and a cheaper one. Proper maintenance helps you avoid getting to the point where you’re paying to take the home all the way back to bare wood.

Sashco also offers a complete system for log homes—from cleaners and wood preservatives to stains, clear coats, caulking and chinking—so the products are designed to work together. We carry that full line right here at Mountain State Log Homes.

You’ve made a big investment in your log home. Protecting it isn’t the place we’d recommend cutting corners.

We also maintain a list of contractors who have completed Sashco’s extensive Zero Failures training, giving them specialized knowledge in the proper preparation, application, and maintenance of Sashco products on log homes.

Not sure what your home needs? Call us at 304-884-6646 before you buy. Our team can help you choose the right Sashco products and contractors for your project and explain how to properly use them.

And there goes the last one! 🏡

Our final pre-built tiny cabin is loaded up and heading to its new home.

We’ve enjoyed watching these little cabins leave our lot over the years and head off to become hunting camps, weekend getaways, and special places for their new owners to enjoy.

We are no longer building our pre-built tiny cabins, so seeing the last one pull out is definitely a moment worth sharing.

A big thank you to our customer for choosing Mountain State Log Homes. We wish you many happy years and plenty of good memories in your new cabin!

The Stephanie — simple, practical, and full of possibilities. 🏡

At 1,400 square feet, The Stephanie offers 3 bedrooms and 1.5 bathrooms, all on one level. Its 50’ x 28’ footprint makes it a great option for someone who wants comfortable living without an oversized home.

One feature we especially like is the option for a cathedral ceiling over the living and dining areas, giving the main living space a more open feel.

Take a look through the elevation drawings and floor plan and picture how you might make The Stephanie your own. Remember, our plans can be customized to better fit your needs and lifestyle.

If you know, you know. 🪵

There’s a certain feeling when you walk into a real log home.

The smell of the wood. The warmth of the logs. The beams overhead. That cozy feeling you just don’t get in an ordinary house.

It’s hard to explain in a picture—and even harder to appreciate from a floor plan.

If you’re interested in building that feeling for your log home, stop by our Jane Lew model home and talk with our sales staff.

🍂 Log Home Tip: Think about those falling leaves before you build!

A wooded lot can be the perfect setting for a log home, but all those beautiful trees come with something else every fall—a whole lot of leaves.

When planning your home, think about your roof design, roof valleys, gutters, decks, porches, and how close large trees will be to the house. Leaves and debris can collect in these areas and hold moisture if they aren’t cleaned regularly.

This is especially worth considering with lower rooflines or homes tucked closely beneath heavy tree cover. A little planning now can make seasonal maintenance much easier later.

You don’t have to give up that beautiful wooded setting—just think ahead about how you’ll maintain it.

D-shaped? Dovetail? The logs you choose can give your home a completely different look. 🪵🏡

Choosing a log profile is one of the fun decisions you’ll make when planning a log home. Some people love the traditional rounded appearance of a D-log, while others are drawn to the more rustic, squared look of dovetail logs.

You’ll also have choices when it comes to the wood itself, including pine and hemlock. Each combination creates its own look and character, so there isn’t one style that’s right for everyone.

Not sure what you like? That’s what we’re here for. Stop in and see the different profiles up close, ask questions, and talk with our sales team about the look you have in mind.
