Annnnd…….. I’m sold out! Thank you everyone for clearing the greenhouse this weekend! Be on the watch for fall starters later this summer! A VERY special thank you to Mossy Creek Outfitters and Guide Services for sharing a selection of Clappy Cultivation plants at their shop several weekends this spring! Zucchini is the most productive summer vegetable in the American garden — and also one of the most commonly mismanaged. Here are the 6 problems most growers encounter and exactly what causes each one. 🥒

① Flowers dropping with no fruit — completely normal for the first 1–2 weeks. Male flowers appear before females. Female flowers have a miniature zucchini visible at the base. Be patient.

② Rotting dark tip on fruit — blossom end rot. Caused by calcium disruption from inconsistent watering, not a soil deficiency. Deep, consistent watering and mulch solves this.

③ White powder on leaves — powdery mildew. Remove affected leaves immediately and spray the plant with a diluted baking soda solution. Improve air circulation between plants.

④ Mottled yellow leaves — cucumber mosaic virus spread by aphids. No cure. Remove the plant and control aphids on everything nearby.

⑤ Sudden overnight wilt with a hole at stem base — squash vine borer larva is inside the stem. Act today.

⑥ Tiny fruit shrivelling before growing — pollination failure. Hand pollinate with a cotton swab or small paintbrush in the morning.
