Before you start tearing out flooring, throwing away damaged materials, or moving everything around, take a moment to document what happened—if it is safe to do so.

📸 Take wide photos of the entire affected room
📸 Take close-ups of visible damage
🎥 Record a slow video showing where the water appears to have traveled
📝 Write down when you first discovered the damage
📝 Note the suspected source, if known
📦 Photograph damaged personal property before disposing of anything

Then focus on stopping additional damage. Shut off the water source if you can do so safely, move vulnerable belongings away from active water, and get professional help when the loss extends beyond a simple surface cleanup.
