Most homeowners look at this video and just see "rain." As a roofer, I see a few thousand dollars in future damage hiding in plain sight.

If your roof and gutter system isn't dialed in perfectly, here is exactly what is happening to your home during a storm like this:

1️⃣ The "Heavy" Pull: See those wet leaves? That debris gets incredibly heavy. It pulls the spikes loose, rips the gutter away from the house, and destroys your fascia board.

2️⃣ The "Backflow" Leak: If the gutter is clogged or hung wrong, water fills up and flows backwards over the rear edge. It doesn't hit the ground—it runs right into your soffit and inside your walls.

3️⃣ The "Shiner" (Exposed Nail): Look closely at your shingles. If you see shiny nail heads on top of the roof that aren't sealed with caulk, you have a problem. Those "shiners" rust out and create a direct path for water to drip right into your attic.

4️⃣ Structural Rot: Once that water gets behind the fascia or down a nail hole, it eats your wood framing alive.

The Takeaway: Don't just check if your gutters are draining. Check if your roof system is actually keeping the water out.

Happy Sunday, Flint Hills.

If you call the office today, you’ll get my voicemail. That’s not because I don’t want your business—it’s because Sunday belongs to faith and family.

We’re heading to Providence Baptist this morning to get our hearts right for the week. With a family of 9 (and baby #8 arriving in May!), getting everyone out the door is a military operation in itself. But it’s the most important thing we do.

🌪️ "But my shingles aren't missing!"

I hear this every day. "My roof looks fine, I don't see any missing shingles."

Here is the scary part: The most dangerous wind damage is invisible from the ground. It's called "Creasing."

When the wind lifts a shingle, it bends backward. This cracks the fiberglass mat underneath. The shingle lays back down flat, so it looks perfect.

But the seal is broken. The next strong wind will rip it off completely, usually right during a rainstorm when you least expect it.

🛑 Don't judge your roof from the driveway.

The weatherman says we’re getting a mix of rain and snow tomorrow before things freeze up Friday night. ❄️

To the kids, that means (hopefully) a snow day. To me, it means watching out for the "Freeze/Thaw" cycle. That’s when water gets into small cracks as rain, freezes overnight, and expands—making those small cracks bigger.

My advice for this weekend: Once the sun comes out on Saturday, just take a quick walk around your house. Look for shingles on the ground or gutters that look heavy/sagging.

You don't need a "free inspection" from a salesman. You just need to keep your eyes open.

But if you do see something that worries you, call me. You won't get a sales rep or a call center. You get me.
