🚨 Big Announcement from Twin Oak Sawmill 🚨

We’re excited to officially announce a new strategic partnership between Twin Oak Sawmill and L&K Hardwoods

This is more than just a collaboration—it’s a move to better serve our customers and grow something bigger than either of us could do alone.

L&K Hardwoods brings years of experience, a large-scale mill, drying capabilities, custom wood working and an established presence in the hardwood market.

Twin Oak Sawmill brings portable milling, lumber and slab production, and a passion for taking logs from tree to finished product.

By joining forces, we’re combining strengths to create a full-service lumber and woodworking operation:
✔️ Log-to-lumber production
✔️ Kiln drying capabilities
✔️ Live edge slabs and dimensional lumber
✔️ Custom furniture and builds
✔️ Increased inventory and faster turnaround times

This partnership allows us to scale up production, improve efficiency, and offer a wider range of high-quality hardwood products—while still keeping the craftsmanship and personal touch we’re known for.

We’ll be operating together at the L&K location, where we’re also working on building out a dedicated retail space and showroom so customers can come browse slabs, lumber, and finished pieces in person.

This is a huge step forward for us, and we’re excited to bring you along for the journey.

Stay tuned for updates, inventory drops, and behind-the-scenes content as we build this out.

Fresh out of the kiln and ready for your next big project! 🪵🔥

We’ve been busy stocking up the shop with some incredible kiln-dried live edge slabs. If you’ve been waiting for the right piece of walnut, oak, or elm to start that dining table, desk, or shelving project, now is the time to come take a look at the inventory.

Why go with kiln-dried? It means the wood is stable, bug-free, and ready for a finish the moment you take it home. No waiting months for it to air dry: just pure, high-quality local hardwood ready to become a centerpiece in your home.

Our inventory is moving fast, but we’ve got some absolute stunners available right now. From massive island tops to unique character pieces for floating shelves, we’ve likely got exactly what you’re looking for.

📍 Swing by the shop here in the Kansas City area and pick out your slab today. Whether you’re a pro woodworker or a DIYer starting your first project, we’d love to help you find the perfect piece.

Message us for our current hours or to see what’s on the stacks. Let’s build something great this year! 👊

Ever notice the wild, flame-like patterns where a walnut branch splits off? That’s crotch figuring in action. Each slab’s got its own dramatic story, and it’s one of the reasons Kansas City walnut is so unique. Then there’s chatoyance: the wood’s shimmering, almost magical effect that shifts as you move or change the light, showing up big in curly and crotch figures. It’s kind of like looking into a pool of water: deep, lively, and impossible to fake.

Curly figuring has those sweet waves and ripples, burl brings big knots and swirls, and crotch figuring cranks up the visual drama. No two boards are the same, which means every table, shelf, and mantel is a one-off.

Check out these slabs: if you want wood that packs serious character, walnut’s got your back. Message us if you’re ready to build something legendary.

Four days, four mobile jobs, four stories from the field:

Day 1: Set up saws on a historic 300-acre spread in West Wyandotte: homegrown hardwoods for a client.
Day 2: Mission, KS, taking apart that monstrous silver maple (just look at the scale in the second photo).
Day 3: Tackled a 48-inch walnut with Lucas. Ten more logs on the bandsaw: felt like a marathon, but worth it for the slabs we pulled.
Day 4: Finished at a repeat client's place with a mix of box elder, sycamore, cherry, and catalpa. Had issues with the fuel system, coaxed the engine to limp through the last log. We don't quit; the boards look great.

Every picture here tells a chapter. Got timber to mill on your land? Dreaming up a one-of-a-kind Kansas City hardwood table or shelf? Twin Oak rolls out for jobs big and small. Message us any time (let’s make something locally legendary.)

Ever notice different terms like RS, S2S, S3S, and S4S when shopping for lumber? Here’s the lowdown on what you’re actually getting:

- RS (Rough Sawn): This is lumber straight off the mill: full thickness, untouched by planers. Expect a rough surface but maximum size to work with.
- S2S (Surfaced 2 Sides): The top and bottom are smooth, but edges stay rough. You lose a bit of thickness for the sake of a flatter board: great middle ground for milling at home.
- S3S (Surfaced 3 Sides): Both faces and one edge are planed, so you’re getting closer to final shape. There’s a bit more wood loss and a bit more cost.
- S4S (Surfaced 4 Sides): All sides smooth and ready to use: perfect for quick DIY or furniture builds. This is the priciest and thinnest of the bunch, but saves you major shop time.

Bottom line: More surfaces dressed = less wood, higher price. Let us know which type you’re after, or DM for advice on your next project!
