Maybe one day we will find a good surprise inside of the walls...until then, make sure you are protected from all pests with a proper pest control regimine! Most standard pest control treatments don't treat for termites, this is usually an additional service to be added on.
In the Gulf Coast climate, we are very proned to termite activity, especially if there is prolonged water intrusion. Termites love moisture in the wood framing! Keep an eye out around windows and doors during rain storms. Check that the dirt and mulch around the house are below the weep holes in brick and the bottom row of siding. These lower damp spots make it very easy for subterrainian termites to get up in the walls.
Also from our experience, termite damage is typically not covered by your insurance without some additional coverages. Double check your policy or with your agent if it's something you would be interested in.
