Sometimes the biggest lessons come from the smallest jobs.
As a roofer, you might think the customer with the biggest roof or biggest project would teach you the most. But one of the smallest roofs I’ve ever done ended up having one of the biggest impacts on my life.
For about a year, I was eating mostly salads and fruit. I’ve always been a believer, but at the beginning of this year, I felt God pulling me toward fasting. For months, I wrestled with it. I honestly didn’t think I could go a full day without eating.
After I finished his roof, we started talking-not about shingles, warranties, or the job, but about God and fasting.
That conversation challenged me.
I decided I wanted to go deeper in my faith and learn what it meant to deny my flesh instead of always giving it what it wanted.
I started with what I thought I couldn’t do: one day.
Since then, I’ve fasted as long as five days.
Fasting has taught me things about discipline, dependence, prayer, temptation, gratitude, and myself that I don’t think I would have learned the same way otherwise. More than anything, it has helped strengthen my relationship with God.
That customer probably had no idea how much that conversation would affect me.
I went there to put a roof on his house.
God used him to help build something in me.
Sometimes the smallest jobs leave the biggest impact. 🙏
