Tout Services, LLC is sharing this as a friendly FYI to help our neighbors prepare for the Arctic blast and better protect their home or business plumbing. Taking just a few minutes now to get ready can greatly reduce the risk of major water damage and expensive repairs if pipes freeze or burst.
Know your main water shutoff
The most important tip: know exactly where your home or business’s main water shutoff valve is and how to operate it before temperatures drop. In an emergency, seconds matter, and you do not want to be searching for the valve while water is pouring into your building.
Locate the main shutoff (often near the street in a meter box, or where the main line enters the building or mechanical room).
Make sure the valve turns easily; if it is stuck, consider having it checked before the hard freeze.
Show every adult, key employee, or manager how to shut the water off quickly if a pipe bursts.
If a pipe does burst, your first move should be to shut off the main water valve, then shut off power to any affected area if it is safe to do so, and only then call a plumber or your water provider.
Quick prep tips for home or business
Cover exterior faucets and any exposed outdoor pipes with foam covers, insulation, or thick towels wrapped in plastic.
Disconnect all garden hoses and drain outdoor lines where possible.
Let indoor faucets on exterior walls drip a small stream during the coldest periods to reduce freezing risk.
Open cabinet doors or access panels under sinks on exterior walls so warm air can reach the pipes.
Keep your thermostat at a steady setting (mid‑50s or higher) day and night; avoid big setbacks in temperature during the freeze.

Watauga – Public Works / water utility (emergency contact): numbers are listed on the City of Watauga website; save them in your phone under “Watauga Water Emergency.”
Saginaw, Blue Mound, Colleyville, Hurst, Euless, Bedford, Haltom City – Each of these cities maintains a public works or water department emergency/after‑hours line; search your city name plus “water emergency” and save that number now for quick access.
This is only a partial list; every homeowner and business owner should look up and save the emergency water number for their exact location before the worst of the cold arrives.
