A lot of people are being stole from and taken advantage of, I see it day in and day out from local shops to big name shops from other states with a big YouTube following, it’s a problem! I see most all GM GEN 4/5 computers put into a MAF only tune. I understand most people have no idea what that means, here’s a little education, a GM computer is designed to use a mass air flow(MAF) sensor AND manifold absolute pressure(MAP) sensor (along with other sensors) for fueling, a lot of tuners will put your computer into a MAF only tune and tell you there’s nothing wrong with doing so and I understand there’s a lot of different ways to do a tune, the problem is these shops/tuners who are doing this are robbing you blind, all because they don’t want to take the time to do the tune correctly or they don’t know how, they’re charging $800+ these tunes and giving you the .99 cent special. The MAP side of the tune has a virtual volumetric efficiency(VVE) table and takes a decent amount of time to tune correctly, a lot of shops/tuners will simply turn it off. The MAF side of the tune can be tuned in 2-3 short drives, the VVE side of the tune can take all day, sometimes longer. If you are getting a tune for GM GEN 4/5 computer(06+) ask your tuner if they are going to put it in a MAF only tune, if they say yes, take it somewhere else, if they say no, make them show & explain in their computer program, if they won’t show & explain, take it somewhere else! With a complete tune, you WILL have better drivability, better throttle response and the most efficient tune for your application!
