North La Crosse Kitchen Remodel

This kitchen was fairly closed in and offered very limited cabinet and workspace. Removing part of the wall between the kitchen and sunroom was a game changer, opening the rooms up and creating a much more natural flow.

We also relocated an existing window to become the new kitchen sink window, allowing for a far more functional layout and considerably more storage.

Like many remodeling projects, this one came with some hidden challenges. Compromised floor joists from previous renovations required structural repairs before the new kitchen could come together. It took some extra thought and problem-solving, but the finished space is brighter, more open, and works so much better for the homeowner.

Welcome to the new Choice Home Solutions page. I’m Alan Paulson, the owner of Choice Home Solutions.

A few years ago, I stepped away from teaching carpentry at Western Technical College. You could call it semi-retirement from teaching—but not from the trade. I still wanted to stay active, work with my hands, and continue doing the remodeling and carpentry I’ve always enjoyed. That decision led to Choice Home Solutions.

The trade isn’t new to me, but putting together a page and sharing my work this way definitely is. I’ll keep it pretty simple—completed projects, before-and-after photos, and an occasional look at the planning and craftsmanship that go into each job.

I personally plan and manage each project, and I’m on-site doing most of the carpentry myself. When specialty work is needed, I bring in trusted tradespeople and coordinate everything along the way.

To kick things off, I’m sharing photos from a North Side La Crosse kitchen remodel—from the original space, through planning and cabinet installation, to the finished kitchen.
