Had the chance to get out and shoot the Milky Way for the first time while visiting Big Bear Lake over the weekend. Shooting stars can be quite difficult since the stars are constantly moving.

To shoot the stars, I used the "rule of 500". You divide 500 by the focal length of your lens and that number is your maximum exposure time. I used a 24mm lens - f1.8 at 20 seconds for this shot. It is also important to be somewhere where light pollution is minimal (city lights).
