Found this on a random maintenance! Some companies install crew decided not to hook up the safety float switch! Just stuffed the wires in the cabinet and on their way.

Float switches are a condensation safety mechanism! If your condensation drain fails to drain out the main line, the safety float switch is put in to break the power to the AC so the condensation does over flow the pan and leak water into the ductwork or even the house!

Yes, I fixed it!

How to Prepare Air Conditioner for Summer::::

The first hot weekend of the year is when a lot of homeowners find out their AC has a problem. It runs, but the air is weak. Or it cools for an hour, then quits. Or the electric bill jumps fast. If you are wondering how to prepare air conditioner summer the right way, a little attention now can save you from an expensive breakdown when the heat finally sticks around.

Around Lake Stevens and the Puget Sound area, summer cooling needs can be a little unpredictable. You may not run the system hard every day in spring, which makes it easy to miss early warning signs. Then a warmer stretch hits, and the problems show up all at once. The good news is that basic preparation is not complicated, and it does not require a full mechanical background to spot what needs attention.

Start it early, not on the hottest day

One of the smartest ways to prepare an AC for summer is to test it before you truly need it. Turn it on during a mild day and let it run long enough to cycle normally. Listen for anything unusual, such as buzzing, rattling, grinding, or repeated clicking. Pay attention to how the air feels coming from the supply vents and whether the home starts cooling evenly.

This early test matters because some problems are not complete failures yet. A weak capacitor, dirty coil, low refrigerant charge, or aging blower issue may still let the system run, just not very well. Catching those issues in spring is usually less stressful than dealing with them during a heat wave when schedules fill up fast and indoor temperatures keep climbing.

If the air coming out of the vents is not cool after a reasonable run time, that is a sign to stop guessing. Homeowners can handle filters, thermostat checks, and clearing debris, but once performance points to a deeper issue, proper diagnosis matters. Throwing parts at a system is rarely the cheapest path.

A dirty blower motor can cause significant problems. Dust and grime act like an insulating blanket, trapping heat and causing the motor to overheat. Buildup on the fan blades (the blower wheel) also reduces airflow, which forces the system to work harder, driving up energy bills and risking premature motor failure.

When you rely on your system to keep you warm durning the winter or cool during the summer months, it is good to have an annual routine maintenance on your system.
A maintenance could prevent future problems and help with efficiency and overall reliability.
