🦫 Swamp Sweepers Animal of the Day: Muskrat
Muskrats are semi-aquatic mammals commonly found in marshes, ponds, lakes, and wetlands throughout North America. Excellent swimmers, they use their long tails and partially webbed feet to move through the water while feeding on cattails, reeds, and other aquatic plants. Their lodges and burrows create habitat for other wildlife and help shape wetland ecosystems.
If you spot a small brown animal cruising across the water with a thin tail trailing behind, there’s a good chance you’ve found a muskrat! 🌿🌊

🪱 Swamp Sweepers Animal of the Day: Leech
Leeches are freshwater invertebrates commonly found in lakes ponds and wetlands. While they’re often known for attaching to animals to feed on blood most leech species actually feed on small aquatic organisms or decaying organic matter. They play an important role in aquatic ecosystems by helping recycle nutrients and serving as a food source for fish turtles and waterfowl.
Though they may not be the most popular lake creature leeches are an important part of a healthy freshwater ecosystem. 🌊🌿
