❓ Q: How do I switch my mini-split from AC to heat?
🌿 Heat Pumps 101 — Q&A Fridays with Island Ductless
💡 A: It's easy—but don't just turn up the temperature! You need to actually change your heat pump's operating MODE from cooling to heating.
After last week's warm weather, our suddenly cool Whidbey days have many of us reaching for the heat again. 🍂 Here's how to make the seasonal switch:
☀️ 1. Select HEAT Mode
Point your remote directly at the indoor unit and press MODE until you see the sun ☀️ symbol on the remote display.
🌡️ 2. Set your temperature
Choose the temperature you'd like your room to maintain. Remember, turning the temperature way up won't make your heat pump warm the room faster—choose the temperature that's comfortable for you.
📡 3. Point, press...and listen for the BEEP!
Remember our recent Q&A? Your remote needs to communicate with the indoor unit. Listen for that little beep after changing the mode or settings—it confirms the unit received your command.
🏠 4. Have more than one indoor unit connected to the same outdoor unit? This one's important!
Every indoor unit needs to be set to the same operating mode.
If you're switching from cooling to heating, change ALL of the indoor units to Heat Mode—even the ones you plan to leave turned off. Once they're all set to Heat, you can turn off the indoor units you don't want running.
If one is still calling for cooling while another is calling for heat, the system may stop operating until those conflicting commands are corrected.
⭐ Bottom Line
Making the seasonal switch is simple:
MODE → ☀️ HEAT → SET YOUR TEMP → LISTEN FOR THE BEEP
And if you have a multi-zone system:
Change ALL your indoor units to HEAT first—even the ones you're going to turn off.
Then settle in and enjoy that warm, efficient heat. 🍂🏡
That's the 🌿
