We’re proud to congratulate Bryan Smith on his promotion to Project Engineer.

Bryan has spent the last three years as a tool runner in our shop, learning the business from the ground up. That kind of experience matters. You see the pace, the details, the people, and the pressure behind the work — not from a spreadsheet, but from being around it every day.

He’s shown strong promise, a good head for the work, and a real desire to keep learning. Now he’s bringing that shop experience into the office, and we’re excited to see him take on this next challenge.

His first assignment is the Lake Street Bascule project, which should keep him plenty busy right out of the gate.

If you see Bryan in the field, give him a well-earned congratulations.

Our industry is facing a real shift: for every one new ironworker entering the trade, two are retiring.

That gap is growing and it’s why investing in apprenticeships, mentorship, and hands‑on training matters more than ever. The future of our workforce depends on it.

♻️ Trivia Tuesday: Structural steel contains an average of 92% recycled content and is 100% recyclable.

For our industry, that means the materials we build with today can be reused for generations, without losing strength, performance, or reliability. It’s one of the reasons steel remains a cornerstone of sustainable construction and long‑term value for our clients and partners.

At Metropolitan Steel, we’re proud to work with materials that support both durability and environmental responsibility.

We’re excited to announce our new Lake Street field office, expanding our presence in Downtown Chicago and bringing us even closer to the transit and infrastructure projects that keep this city moving.

This location strengthens our ability to coordinate with partners, respond faster to complex job sites, and support the growing demand for high‑impact public‑sector work.

Chicago’s infrastructure is evolving, and we’re right in the middle of it.

What started as a bold bet on someone from outside the construction world has turned into one of the best decisions we've ever made. Kevin Hartmann, CPA came in with fresh eyes, a sharp mind, and a willingness to challenge how things had always been done. Three years later, the results speak for themselves.

It's no surprise that Kevin has grown into the role of VP of Finance. He's brought not just financial discipline, but a broader strategic lens that continues to give Metropolitan Steel a real edge in a competitive industry. His outside perspective hasn't faded, it's sharpened.

But what makes Kevin truly stand out goes beyond the numbers. He's patient, humble, and somehow still has a great sense of humor after three years of working with us. The kind of person who makes the people around him better, and the kind of leader you actually want in the room when it matters.

Kevin, three years in, you're not just part of the team. You're part of the family. Here's to many more. Congratulations on year three, Kevin! 🎉

Chicago’s skyline didn’t happen by accident. It was built by generations of union ironworkers who showed up, stood tall, and took pride in every beam they set. We’re honored to continue that legacy.

to the 2018 CyrusOne Aurora Expansion in Aurora, IL.

Working alongside Ozark Steel, LLC with a design by Corgan, this project required detailed coordination and a steady pace to support a mission-critical data center environment. Our team led the structural steel er****on for the expansion, including the data hall and rooftop systems built to carry complex mechanical loads.

From mezzanine framing to rooftop support steel, every phase called for precision and adaptability as layouts evolved in real time. It’s a strong example of what it takes to keep demanding projects on track without missing a milestone.
