Members of the Mississippi Emergency Management Agency and the Lauderdale County Emergency Management Agency were out at Lowe’s in Meridian today to promote disaster preparedness.

The two agencies greeted people, connected them with resources to help prepare for when disaster strikes, and showed off equipment from the Lauderdale County Dive Team.

We will be conducting dive exercises at the Dalewood training site at Ski Island tomorrow Tuesday May 26th and Wednesday May 27th. We will be teaching members of the State Task Force Dive Team proper procedures for vehicle location and recovery, victim recovery, and several other essential skills. Please don't be alarmed if you see emergency response vehicles at that location over the next couple of days. We will have several diver down buoys and diver down flags posted around the area. Please remember that if you see a dive flag flying or a dive buoy, stay back 300' for the divers safety. This response team is made up of several surrounding area fire department divers. Exercises like this help build crucial teamworking skills that are extremely important in actual emergencies.

💔 Tragedy on the Water: Florida Keys Community Mourning After Fatal Diving Accident Near Little Palm

The Florida Keys community is grieving after a tragic boating accident claimed the life of a beloved 27-year-old Key woman near Little Palm Island this week. 🌊💔

According to authorities, the young was diving Thursday afternoon in the Lower Keys when she was struck by a passing boat. Reports indicate that a dive flag was properly displayed in the area at the time of the accident. Despite emergency response efforts, she sadly did not survive.

The incident remains under by the "Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission (FWC)"

and locals across Key West have identified the victim as Jocelyn Brown, a young woman many describe as vibrant, adventurous, kindhearted, and deeply connected to the local . Since news of the tragedy spread, social media has been flooded with emotional tributes, photos, and messages from people whose lives she touched. ❤️

For many in the , this loss feels especially personal. Life here revolves around the water — boating, diving, fishing, and spending time on the ocean are part of everyday life. Incidents like this serve as a devastating reminder of how quickly can happen when safety is overlooked.

Many are once again urging boaters to slow down, stay alert, and respect dive flags at all times. 🚤⚠️ Divers and snorkelers share these waters with boat traffic every day, and a single careless moment can forever change countless lives.

What should have been another beautiful afternoon in the Keys instead became a heartbreaking day for an entire community.

Tonight, many throughout Key West and the Lower Keys are holding Jocelyn’s family, friends, and loved ones close in their thoughts and . 🙏

The LEMA/Meridian Fire Dive Team had an awesome time at Collinsville Day!! If you've never been, I suggest planning on it next year. Good food, lots of vendors with just about anything you can imagine, and great family fun!!

I just got back from High Performance Technical Rescue Training in West Virginia. I earned my Surface and Swiftwater Rescue Technician/Boat Operations certification. Thank you to all of the instructors at SPEC RESCUE for an amazing opportunity. This was by far the most challenging and informative class that I have taken, but also the most fun!!! The knowledge and experience I have gained will help the LEMA/Meridian Fire Dive Team to better serve our community and the surrounding area.
