Lush green grass takes hard work, but here’s the good news: One Up has the equipment ready to deliver the grass of your dreams, and we are ready to help you.

September is one of the most important months to give your lawn some love. After a long Kansas summer, your grass is ready for cooler temps, recovery, and the treatments that help set it up for a stronger fall, and an even better spring. This is prime time for fertilization, w**d control, aeration, and overseeding, especially if your lawn is looking thin, patchy, stressed, or just a little tired.

Let's get you on the books!

Your lawn shouldn’t feel like a parking lot 😅

Over time, foot traffic, mowing, heat, and everyday use can compact the soil beneath your grass. When that happens, water, air, and nutrients have a harder time reaching the roots.

Core aeration helps relieve that compaction and gives your lawn a better environment to grow stronger roots.

If your soil feels hard or water tends to run off instead of soaking in, it may be time to aerate.

Ok ok, let me explain 😅

If you’ve seen these little dirt plugs after aeration, they’re actually a GOOD sign, especially for Kansas lawns that deal with compacted soil.

They’re called soil cores, and removing them helps air, water, and nutrients reach the roots more easily.

Leave them on the lawn, too. They’ll break down naturally and return organic matter back into the soil, helping to create that lush lawn you've been dreaming of!

Oops, I said it 👀

Fertilizer is great at feeding the healthy turf you already have, but if your lawn is looking thin, patchy, or bare after a long Kansas summer, it needs more than nutrients. That’s where overseeding comes in!

Overseeding helps fill in thin areas with new grass, creating a thicker lawn that looks better and gives w**ds less room to take over.

So before you throw more fertilizer at the problem… make sure there’s actually grass there to feed.

If summer left your lawn looking a little rough, now’s the time to make a fall game plan.

Welcome to The One Up Lawn Report—a quick monthly breakdown of what is happening in Kansas lawns, what you can do about it and which problems are better left to a professional. The goal is to help you catch small issues early, avoid wasting money on treatments you do not need and keep your lawn healthier throughout the year.

What’s happening in your lawn this July

Summer heat is settling in, and fescue lawns are beginning to show every weak spot. Heat stress, inconsistent irrigation, nutsedge, fungus and insect activity can all become more noticeable this time of year—and several of those problems can look surprisingly similar.

Before reaching for more fertilizer or turning up the sprinklers, take a closer look. The priority right now is keeping your lawn stable through the heat. Water deeply in the early morning, keep your mowing height around 3½ to 4 inches, and avoid removing more than one-third of the grass blade at a time. Cutting too short or pushing unnecessary growth can create even more stress.

If you notice bright, lime-green shoots growing faster than the rest of your lawn, it may be nutsedge. Pulling it usually does not solve the problem because the underground tubers remain and continue producing new growth.

Not sure whether your lawn is thirsty, diseased or dealing with a w**d problem? Reply to this email with a picture. I’ll let you know what you are looking at and whether it actually needs treatment—no sales pitch required.
