On National Pledge of Allegiance Day, we pause to honor the men and women who have defended, and continue to defend, our freedoms by reciting the Pledge. First published anonymously in The Youth’s Companion in 1892, it was written to mark the 400th anniversary of Columbus’s arrival in America.
More than half a century later – on Dec. 28, 1945 – Congress formally recognized the Pledge of Allegiance, ensuring its place as a lasting symbol of unity, patriotism, and gratitude for those who serve our nation.
