We're proud to support Building Homes for Heroes who build homes for our country's heroes. Congratulations to The Villages Construction Academy students who were recognized for the hard work they put into building two homes for veterans and their families this year.

Florida high schoolers build mortgage-free homes from the ground up for wounded U.S. Army veterans and their families.

The Villages Charter School students partnered with nonprofit Building Homes for Heroes to construct and gift two new houses in Lake Panasoffkee, Florida, to Army Specialist Rajae Jones and Sergeant James Tabares.

The program gives students hands-on construction training while changing lives — and Florida has the highest demand for veteran housing in the country, according to the organization's president.

Meet Guillermo: four and a half years with RoMac Distribution's Insulation Department, and this year's Installer of the Year.

RoMac's June Whole House Commodity Index is out, and the story flipped from last month.

In May, wood prices were falling and builders were watching for the bottom. In June the trend reversed. Lumber turned and ticked higher, and the real pressure showed up in petroleum-based products like soffit, housewrap, and trim, all up around 5 to 6 percent on energy costs that have not let go since winter.

There is a hopeful wrinkle. The June 14 agreement between the US and Iran could ease those energy-driven costs by late summer if it holds. For now, the smart move is to lock your manufactured-product quotes early and check those categories monthly, not quarterly.

What started as our Lady Lake yard has found a new home in Wildwood, and the team has the new space running like they've been there for years. Fully stocked, busy, and ready for whatever you're building.

81 years. That's how long we've been loading trucks in Central Florida.

Since 1945, three generations have grown up in this business, and we've watched this area grow right alongside us. The neighborhoods, the schools, the homes. We're proud to have had a hand in a lot of what's been built here, and prouder still of the builders we've gotten to work next to along the way.

This year we sponsored a home built for a local family by the Villages Construction Academy students and Habitat for Humanity of Lake-Sumter.

We show up for this because futures are being built here. These students have a future, and the skills they pick up on a real job site set them up for it. The family moving in has a future, and now they have a home to grow it in. And our whole industry has a future that depends on the next generation choosing the trades. Construction education is a wonderful way to make sure those trades carry on.
