Part 2 of this cleanup transformation 🌿👀

A couple weeks ago this area was completely overgrown with poison ivy, fallen limbs, thick brush, and hidden grade issues.

Now you can actually walk the property again and see the shape of the land.

This visit we finished cutting up and removing the fallen tree, continued cleanup work, and really opened the whole space back up. Huge difference already just from clearing the overgrowth and exposing everything again.

These transformation-style cleanups are always satisfying because they completely change how a property feels in just a few days.

🌿 Plant Spotlight from Virginia 🌿

While exploring near Williamsburg, Virginia on our trip, this plant completely stopped us in our tracks. The bold evergreen foliage, sharp tropical-looking leaves, and dusty blue berries looked almost prehistoric tucked back in the woods.

This is Leatherleaf Mahonia (Mahonia bealei), an evergreen shrub that thrives in shade and brings year-round texture to the landscape. One of the coolest things about it is that it blooms in late winter with fragrant yellow flowers when almost everything else is dormant, making it an important early food source for pollinators.

Those blue berries also have a natural waxy coating that gives them that frosted look. Birds love them, and while they’re technically edible, they’re apparently extremely tart.

Definitely not a plant you see used often around Kentucky, but it was one of those plants that makes you stop and appreciate how much inspiration nature gives for landscape design. Sometimes the best ideas come from just slowing down and noticing what’s already growing around you. 🌿

We were finishing up mowing and cleaning up this fence line when this little pink flower growing through the old white fence stopped us for a second. 🌸

Kind of felt relatable honestly.

Life gets busy. Things pile up. Stress, work, responsibilities, bad seasons, burnout… sometimes it feels like everything around you gets a little overgrown. But every once in a while you still get these small moments that break through all the chaos and remind you there’s still color and beauty underneath it all.

This tiny bloom growing out of a weathered fence probably wouldn’t catch most people’s attention, but after a long day in the heat it made us stop for a second and just appreciate it.

Sometimes landscaping is more than mowing grass and trimming weeds. Sometimes it’s getting to watch neglected places slowly come back to life — and maybe realizing people are a little like that too. 🌿

Join me for a high-energy day of professional landscaping. We start early at the supply yard, hauling fresh mulch and gear to bring new life to beautiful residential properties. It is a satisfying mix of manual labor, teamwork, and the ultimate reward of seeing a yard fully transformed.

30 year old taxus finally had to go 😅🌿

The customers were tired of constantly fighting huge overgrown shrubs that were taking over the front of the house, so we removed them and gave everything a cleaner, more manageable look.

We replaced them with Chestnut Hill Laurels and Little Giant Arborvitae to keep some nice evergreen color and help fill the space out without everything getting massive again in a few years 👌

Big difference already and it fits the house so much better now. Sometimes you don’t need a full landscape redesign, just the right plants in the right space.

Follow along for more transformations 🌱

Mulch had to go on this one 🌿

This bed had years of buildup… sitting too high against the house and turning into a yearly chore.

We pulled out almost 2 yards of old mulch + fabric, cleaned everything up, and reset it the right way. Threw in some fresh plants for better color and spacing, then finished it off with Alabama Sunset rock.

Way cleaner look and way less maintenance 👌

This is one of those upgrades that just makes life easier.

Replaced a dead maple with a lilac tree today 🌿

This one gives the front yard a fresh start while still keeping that small ornamental tree look. Once it settles in, it’ll add spring blooms, fragrance, and a softer look to the front landscape.

Simple swap, but it makes a big difference.

A little behind our process. 🌿
Swipe through to see this one go from starting bed → draft concept → removal → install. I always like showing the process, not just the finished result.

For this install we layered in plants with purpose — creeping phlox that will spread and soften the bed edge, Encore azaleas for evergreen structure with blooms through the year, coral bells to tie into the red and green foliage tones, and hostas to add shade texture and color depth.

The goal was year-round interest with layers that will only get better as they fill in. That’s the fun part… designing for what a space becomes.

If you’ve got a bed you’ve been wanting to refresh, send us a message for more info and check out more of our work/pics: https://linqapp.com/jeffrey_smith?r=link

Taking things out on a limb today… 🌿✂️

Worked on grafting papaws for a customer today — adding improved varieties onto established trees and helping build something that should produce for years to come. There’s something pretty special about mixing old-school orchard skills with a little plant science.

Papaw is North America’s largest native fruit, and honestly doesn’t get nearly enough love. Excited to see how these grafts take.

If you’ve got fruit trees that need pruning, grafting, or just want to talk edible landscapes, send us a message!

Taking landscaping to new heights. 🌳⬆️

Literally.

Today at Panera Hamburg we put the scissor lift to work raising the tree canopy over the drive-thru, trimming back overgrown hedges, and sharpening up the whole lane. Swipe for the before and after — big difference.

Cleaner sight lines, more light, crisper lines, and a much better look overall.

Some days landscaping means boots on the ground… other days it means working in the air with a hedge trimmer in hand.

Days like this remind me how much variety there is in this work — and why I love it.
