Sharing photos of a pair of end tables that John made. This is a maple live edge "cookie" split in half to be placed at both ends of a sofa. They match a full cookie coffee table. I do not have a photo of the coffee table - sorry! John filled spaces in the wood with epoxy. This was a custom order after the customer saw the coffee table in our shop.
John cut the cookies with our Petersen saw mill, and dried the wood in our vacuum kiln. Drying maple takes only 7 to 10 days. A vacuum kiln uses heat, negative pressure, and moisture to dry wood quickly with little cracking.
John takes orders to dry wood all the time, so give him a call if you have slabs or boards to dry. It is important that boards and slabs be an even depth, and it helps if all boards/slabs that fill a layer (5' x 16') are the same depth.
He also slabs logs into live edge slabs on a custom basis. Our mill can handle logs up to 5.5' across and 20' long.
We have many live edge slabs and cookies for sale, too. Hardwoods -- oak, walnut, ash, and other woods. In addition, John makes custom furniture from live edge slabs and cookies.
