What to do with your furnace in Extreme Cold. Please note our furnaces are NOT designed for -20 to -30 degree temperatures with even higher wind chills. Here are a few tips to help you get through the next few days. 1. Change the filter in your furnace, or maybe even remove it for the next couple days. Having a clean filter or even removing it will help with the air flow in your furnace to keep it running as efficiently as possible. 2. Please raise the temperature on your thermostat 2 to 4 degrees above your Normal setting. 3. Now, change your programmable thermostat setting to HOLD (out of setback mode) for the next few days. Normally it is good to lower your setting when you are not at home to conserve energy. However this can be more trouble than it is worth in this extreme cold. It will be harder for your furnace to work to get your temperature up to your "at home" setting once you do get home. So keep it at the same temperature all day and night until we get back to normal seasonal temperatures. 4. Make sure all of your vents are open and not blocked with debris. Hope these few tips help keep you warm during these Extreme temperatures!
