After weeks of dry conditions, last week’s rain brought some much-needed relief — and our lawns are showing it!
According to the latest drought data for our area, drought conditions have had a real impact this season. Earlier this spring, much of the region was dealing with severe drought conditions (D2) and Mississippi overall had nearly 92% of the state experiencing drought conditions, with over 74% reaching severe drought or worse levels.
That recent rainfall may not erase a drought overnight, but it absolutely made a difference. Soil moisture improved, lawns got a boost, and new seedings finally received the natural drink they’ve been waiting for.
One good rain helps, but new seed and germinating grass still need consistent watering. After drought conditions, deeper soil layers can remain dry, making supplemental watering critical for strong root development and long-term lawn success.
