If you can smell mini donuts on the breeze and have already started planning your first food-on-a-stick stop, you know what time of year it is. The Minnesota State Fair is here—the last, best stretch of summer wrapped up in one big, crowded and delicious tradition.
Joe and I are both born-and-raised Minnesotans, so the Fair has always been special to us. Joe heads straight for the chocolate shake at the Dairy Building. I have to confess my own Fair loyalties...
I am loyal to the Pronto Pup every single time—and yes, to a true fan, it is definitely not the same as a corn dog. Pronto Pups use a lighter, less-sweet flour batter, and they've been a Fair staple since they debuted here back in 1947. Once you know the difference, there's no going back. (Team Pronto Pup for life.)
The Fair means even more to me because some of my favorite memories began there as a 4-H’er. I earned a trip to the State Fair four years in a row and was fortunate enough to win Grand Champion each year. My projects included sewing, quilting, childcare crafts and furniture refinishing.
I am still proud of those ribbons, but what I remember most clearly are all the steps we had to climb to reach the bunks on the top floor of the 4-H Building. Then there was the 10 p.m. curfew: arrive on time or risk sleeping on a bench. I never had to do that, of course, because I was such a good girl—ha, ha.😉
The Fair has changed since those days, and returning can make me a little nostalgic for the way I remember it. Those 4-H years were a fabulous experience, and the memories come right back every August.
That sense of community is also what Joe and I value most about High Road. We are not a giant HVAC corporation, and we are proud of that. We are your neighbors. We remember your name, your home and the last time we were there. Our goal is to take care of people the way we would want our own family to be treated. I've built High Road to be a Grand Champion of Customer Care and Home Comfort!
