Plant of the Day: Day 23 🌱

🌱 Paphiopedilum Grand Sangiovese is a hybrid lady slipper orchid crossed between paphiopedilum hsinying cyber leopard x hsinying red apple! She is a beauty and rare orchid! Not only does it produce a gorgeous flower but the leaves it grows are different color and pattern than other kinds of orchids!
🌱 This orchid is famous for producing glossy, heavily spotted, dark red to vinicolor flowers that was first crossed in 2020 by M. Tibbs. Paphiopedilum are native in the humid forest floors of Southern Asia! 💕
🌱 Paphiopedilum thrive having low-to-medium indirect light, maintaining a consistent root moisture and not allowing them to fully dry out! I water it atleast once or twice a week depending how hot it is! The type of soil mix it needs is a well draning mix using fine grade orchid bark, perlite and sphagnum moss to keep it moist longer!
🌱 When I first got this beauty I did have to remove the last two light colored leaves because they were not In its best condition! I am still learning more on how to care for this beauty! If you have any recommendations or suggestions I would love to know more on this slipper hybrid! I can’t wait to watch it grow and bloom again🥰

Plant of the Day: Day 22 🪰

🌱 Venus Flytrap (Dionaea Muscipula) is an amazing carnivorous plant that loves to eat bugs! There are so many different carnivorous specimens that each have their own unique way to provide all the nutrients it needs!
🌱 Venus Fly traps are native in small wetlands of North and South Carolina ! Miss American gurrrrl😜! They thrive with lots of sunlight 14-16 hours but can also thrive with a smaller time!(based on the care of my plant) It requires nutrient poor soil and using distilled water keeping the soil moist and not soggy! It is so cool witnessing the way all carnivorous plants eat!
🌱 Venus plant gets its nutrients is by having nector on the leaf walls and releasing sweet fruity scent to attract insects inside! In the inner lining of the plant it has “trigger hairs” that triggers it to snap shut once prey is on top. In order for it to snap the prey has to touch two or more of the trigger hairs and has to be there for about 20 seconds. The more the insect struggles the more it closes shut! Once it shut it begins to digest and release acid to dissolve parts of the insect! After a couple of days the plant will open and be ready to catch its new prey!
🌱 Each movement the plant does use so much energy it doesn’t want to have false alarms. They can only shut 5-7 times its lifespans so please do not force it to shut or put random things! They thrive on eating live bugs! The fly I gave it was half alive hehehe

*If you have any more tips or more Information to take care of this specimen please comment below! Always want to learn more!

✨What is plant Fasciation in flowers? ✨

Well let me show you this beauty I found at Lowe’s. This is a white Gerbera Daisy, an example of a rare mutation called Fasciation or also known as Cresting! Each of the daisys stem grew attached to one another and produced two individual flowers! Sometimes it can be an opposite reaction where there’s one stem and the two flower heads are blended together creating a unique flower! It looks sooo coool and gorgeous! I always feel lucky when I find flowers like this. If you have ever found any plant/flower fasciation i’d love to see in the comments! 🌿💗
