A beautiful day for the Los Angeles Conservancy 2021 Preservation Awards!

Larchmont Charter School @ Lafayette Park is a model for innovation in adaptive reuse. We transformed the 1957 NY Life Insurance Headquarters by Welton Becket into a vertical urban high school, promoting progressive teaching within the classroom and new modes of outreach to the neighborhood and community.

Following a sensitive renovation at the hands of DSH // architecture, the Larchmont Charter High School in Los Angeles settles into a midcentury gem originally designed by Welton Becket.

Larchmont Charter at Lafayette Park is published in Dwell’s May 2015 issue!
Preserving key elements of a 1955 Welton Becket–designed building, DSH // architecture's innovative adaptive reuse transformed the former New York Life Insurance headquarters into four stories of generous, light-filled classrooms, all with fresh air and views of the city.
Danielson and Haas will discuss the project, and their ideas on adaptive reuse, on May 30 at Dwell on Design 2015.
