We are excited to share that Lisa will be giving a conversation Danish design icon Poul Henningsen, right where our office makes its home – the historic ! Please join us for her talk, ‘Poul Henningsen: Architect, Inventor, Provocateur, Placemaker’ at the Helms Design Center on Wednesday, May 21, 6-8 pm.
Most of us are familiar with Henningsen’s light fixtures. These innovative fixtures have been in continuous production since their introduction in the twentieth century and continue to be featured in residential, office, and hospitality interiors worldwide.
Lisa will explore Henningsen’s equally groundbreaking but lesser-known work as an architect, critic, and placemaker. Like Los Angeles-based architects R. M. Schindler and Richard Neutra, Henningsen viewed design as having revolutionary potential, and like Schindler and Neutra, his own home was a manifesto for modern living.
Lisa’s talk will conclude with a discussion of PH’s stewardship of Tivoli Gardens through WW2, and his collaborative work on the Parterre Garden of 1943.
