Installed the panel and came back about two months later to find this custom light fixture one of the ranch hands added.

Not gonna lie, I had to stop and stare at it for a second.

Definitely not what I expected to see coming off the setup, but there it is — homemade lighting solution and all.

Would you leave it, or is this one of those “absolutely not, take it down immediately” situations?

First-year apprentice here cutting in my switch box, and I’m looking for some real constructive criticism.

Still learning, so don’t hold back — what looks good, what looks rough, and what would you have done differently?

Trying to get better with every box, even if this one gives the internet plenty to talk about.

Is this allowed?

And before the troll comments start rolling in — this is **not my work**. I’m just trying to get serious answers from people who know.

Looking at this setup and wondering if it actually passes, or if there’s something here that’s a problem.

Feel free to explain what’s wrong, what’s fine, and what should’ve been done differently — just trying to learn, not defend it.

A trough above the disconnects with one clean 2” pipe running up to that junction box would’ve looked way cleaner.
Not saying this doesn’t work, but visually… yeah, my brain immediately wants to straighten the whole layout out.
Sometimes it’s not even about function — it’s about stepping back and thinking, “There had to be a cleaner way to make this happen.”

As per the AHJ, no more plug-and-cord setup… now they want a 30A fusible disconnect at the water heater.
Location is New Orleans, LA.
Curious what everyone thinks about this one. Is this the new normal around here, or does it feel like overkill?
Either way, this is what they called for, so here we are.

Science teacher here looking to add a generator switch so I can power a few key circuits during an emergency.
Electrician came out and recommended replacing the whole thing with a new 200 amp panel. Quote was around $10k for the panel alone, plus another $2,400 for a manual generator switch.
For context, I’ve got an old aluminum oven line that I tied off during a recent remodel — that’s why the 40 amp is thrown. I’m also using the old 240V/30 amp dryer line for a dedicated plug I ran for my wife’s Tesla.
I know enough to be dangerous, but not enough to know if I’m getting solid advice or being sold a full panel swap I don’t actually need.
Thoughts appreciated — roast the panel, the plan, or the quote.

I wasn’t even here for this one, but this is exactly why I think overhead service entrance conductors should be protected in GRC.
One bad placement, one fastener, one person not paying attention… and suddenly you’ve got a serious problem sitting right above everything.
Stuff like this is why “it’ll be fine” doesn’t cut it for me. Give those service conductors some real protection.

My first outdoor outlet — how’d I do? 😳
Honestly, I’m really loving the patina. Very natural. Very outdoorsy. Very “been through 40 seasons and still somehow hanging on.”
Go ahead and rate the install… but I feel like the rust really ties the whole thing together.

Neighbor had someone wire this up on my side of our shared fence, and I’m trying to figure out if I should be concerned.
There are probably 15–20 of these running down the fence outdoors, and I’m assuming they’re feeding lights or receptacles on their side, but I can’t confirm.
I know code depends on location, but exposed cable stapled to a wood fence with no conduit feels like a fire hazard waiting to happen.
Am I overthinking this, or is this something that’s worth calling the city for a safety inspection?

Two days of work right here.
Overall I’m happy with it… but that blue pipe and my OCD are currently in a full-on fist fight.
Everything else is lining up pretty clean, then that one piece just stands there like, “Yeah, I’m different.”
Go ahead and roast it or rate it — I’m already staring at it harder than anyone else will.

I’m sure this one’s gonna get criticized — and honestly, I’m expecting it.
But I’m not gonna lie… I think it looks pretty good.
There’s always something someone would’ve done differently, but overall I’m happy with how it came out.
Go ahead and pick it apart though — I know the internet will.
