I was doing a little research this week. According to EIA.GOV (energy information administration), the average cost of energy in the summer of 2014 was 15.5c/kwh. As of their last report for August of 2019, it is now 19.9c/kwh.

That's a 29% increase in 5 years! That's why solar is one of the fastest-growing industries in the country.

Why don't more people "believe" in investing in solar for their homes?

It's a great question, and it's one that is almost bewildering to a company like us. Of course, that's because unlike most of the solar companies operating today, after more than 5,000 installs, we've never EVER put a single customer into a lease or power purchase agreement (PPA). The reason for that is simple: leases and PPAs are rip-offs! They are schemes devised to divert some of the customer's potential savings back to the solar sales company under the guise of a "good deal." In short, the customer usually ends up saving some money in comparison to if they were to continue paying their electric bill, and they often get to do it with no money down. What they don't know, however, is the list of downsides they just inherited with their newly binding solar contract. Did you know that a lease/PPA:

1. Adds no increase to the home's appraised value, while an owned system DOES?
2. Saves the customer money, but not nearly as much money as a fairly priced owned system does?
3. Takes the 30% federal tax credit out of the hands of the customer and puts it into the pocket of the solar sales company?
4. Is often a nightmare to transfer to a prospective home buyer at time of sale, and is a common hindrance to selling a home?

Experiences which bring these things to light leave a bad taste in peoples' mouth, and can give a bad name to the entire industry. These are some of the reasons we have NEVER put a customer into a lease or PPA, and we would highly recommend you not enter into one! Oh, and the "no money down" perk of leases? We've mitigated that issue by offering our customers access to the HERO loan program which allows you to retain all the benefits of purchasing a solar system with no money down financing.
