Last Tuesday, we shared Doug’s review about the mill glaze issues he discovered while preparing his deck and the support he received from our team.

Here is the finished transformation.

The deck was stained with DECK*1 COAT in Annie Oakley, giving the wood a warm, natural finish while keeping the grain visible.

This project is a great reminder that proper preparation makes a major difference in the final result.

Before staining your deck or other exterior wood, do a simple water test.

Pour a little water onto the surface and watch it for a few seconds. If the water soaks into the wood, that is a good sign the surface is ready to accept stain. If it beads up, there may still be mill glaze, an old coating, or another barrier that needs to be removed first.

Taking a minute to test the wood can help prevent poor pe*******on, uneven results, and wasted product.

Sometimes the biggest challenge isn't choosing a stain. It's getting the wood ready to accept it.
