August is one of the busiest months for stinging insects in Kentucky. As colonies grow larger, wasps and hornets become more active—and more protective of their nests.

Keep an eye out for:
⚠️ Increased wasp or hornet activity around your home
⚠️ Insects flying to the same spot over and over
⚠️ Nests under roof eaves, decks, porches, sheds, playground equipment, or hidden in shrubs
⚠️ Yellowjackets entering and leaving small holes in the ground

Know the Difference:
🐝 Bees are important pollinators and generally only sting when threatened.
🟡 Yellowjackets can nest underground and are known for aggressively defending their colonies.
⚫⚪ Bald-faced hornets build large paper nests in trees and on structures.
