Good morning!

Goodness, have we had the rain here in Northern Meriwether County the last few days! The good news is that the forecast looks dry this coming week! We needed rain so that’s a blessing!!

The option of going with metal roofing can present some very valid questions, so I wanted to try and help work out some of those.

1. Will a metal roof cost more than a shingle roof? Yes, up front it will, but the offset is that your metal roof reflects the sun’s heat and therefore keeps the attic cooler and in turn keeps the home cooler. This can save $$$ on your electric bill.

2. How does a metal roof compare to a shingle roof re: weather resilience? A metal roof has a much higher wind rating therefore less of a chance for roof blow off and damage.

3. How long does it take to install a metal roof as compared to a shingle roof? Approx. 30-40% longer, depending on the crew and the complexity of the roof design.

4. What other benefits does a metal roof have? Some insurance companies provide a discount on premium as a metal roof is considered fire rated. We suggest that you check with your carrier to verify this.

5. Will a metal roof rust? Only if there’s a manufacturer defect or the roof endures some type of damage that exposes the raw steel. Most manufacturers offer a 40 year finish warranty for painted colors and 20-25 years for Galvalume (shown in pic here)
