Progress Update | Wenham, MA

📍 Wenham, Massachusetts
🔨 Andersen Bay Window • New Entry Door • PVC Trim Upgrade • Siding Replacement

Another milestone reached on our Wenham exterior renovation project.

The new Andersen bay window has been installed, the new entry door is in place, and the PVC trim details are beginning to bring the project together.

While the finished siding will ultimately draw the most attention, proper window and door installation are some of the most important parts of the project. Flashing, weatherproofing, and trim details all play a critical role in protecting the home from water intrusion and ensuring long-term performance.

This project includes:

✔ New Andersen bay window
✔ New entry door and storm door
✔ Full PVC trim upgrade
✔ Front siding replacement

The transformation is starting to take shape, and we’re excited to share the finished results soon.

What We Found During the Wenham Renovation

📍 Wenham, Massachusetts
🔨 Siding Replacement • PVC Trim Upgrade • Exterior Repairs

While replacing the fascia boards on our current Wenham project, we uncovered a hidden problem.

The front gutter was holding standing water instead of draining properly. Over time, constant moisture exposure had begun affecting the surrounding wood components and contributed to the deterioration we found during demolition.

This is one of the reasons we take the time to fully inspect a home’s exterior while renovation work is underway.

What appears to be a simple trim or siding project can often reveal underlying issues that need to be corrected before new materials are installed.

By addressing these problems now, the new PVC trim, siding, bay window, and exterior details will be installed on a properly repaired and protected structure.

The best exterior renovations don’t just improve appearance—they improve performance and durability as well.

Exterior Transformation Underway | Wenham, MA

📍 Wenham, Massachusetts
🔨 Siding Replacement • PVC Trim Upgrade • Bay Window Installation • Exterior Renovation

Progress is moving quickly on this exterior renovation project in Wenham.

The front elevation has now been stripped, repaired where needed, and wrapped in a new weather-resistant barrier system, creating a properly protected building envelope before the new exterior finishes are installed.

The scope of work includes:

✔ Front siding replacement
✔ Full trim upgrade from rotted wood to PVC trim
✔ New bay window installation
✔ New exterior door installation

The goal is not only to improve curb appeal, but also to eliminate maintenance issues associated with aging wood trim and provide a more durable exterior system built to withstand New England weather.

A successful exterior renovation starts long before the finished siding goes on. Proper preparation, weatherproofing, flashing details, and material selection are what determine how well the project performs for years to come.

Stay tuned as the new siding, trim details, bay window, and door begin to transform the front of this home.

Before & After | Solving the Real Problem, Not Just the Damage

📍 North Shore, Massachusetts
🔨 Exterior Carpentry • Rot Repair • PVC Restoration

At first glance, this looked like a simple case of rotted trim. But once we opened the assembly, we discovered the real cause of the problem.

When this porch was originally built, a pine spacer board was installed horizontally between the pressure-treated framing and the exterior finish board. Unfortunately, that detail trapped water instead of allowing it to drain, creating the perfect environment for moisture damage, wood rot, and carpenter ants.

Rather than simply replacing the damaged materials, we corrected the design flaw.

The rotted components were removed and replaced with a new PVC finish board. We also installed vertical PVC spacers, allowing water to drain properly while promoting airflow between the framing and finish material.

Small details like these make a big difference in the long-term performance of exterior woodwork.

The best repairs don’t just replace what’s damaged—they eliminate the reason it failed in the first place.

Deck Rebuild Completed | Ipswich, MA

📍 Ipswich, Massachusetts
🔨 Hardwood Decking • Exterior Carpentry • Roof & Deck Rebuild

This Ipswich deck rebuild is now complete.

What started as a failing elevated deck with major waterproofing and structural issues below has now been fully rebuilt with a new roof system, protected framing, pre-oiled hardwood decking, and a clean finished railing system.

Every stage of this project focused on long-term durability — from rebuilding the deteriorated structure below, to waterproofing details, to protecting the hardwood decking on all sides before installation.

The final result delivers a warm natural hardwood finish, improved protection for the living space below, and a strong clean layout designed to last for years to come.

Projects like this are built step by step:
structure first, waterproofing second, finish work last.

Thank you to the homeowners for trusting Milton Carpentry Services with this transformation.

Before & After | Porch Pillar Restoration

📍 North Shore, Massachusetts
🔨 Exterior Carpentry • PVC Restoration • Rot Repair

After the homeowner noticed carpenter ants around this porch pillar, we opened the column to investigate and discovered significant rot and moisture damage inside the structure.

The deteriorated pillar had essentially become a nesting area for the ants.

We rebuilt the damaged section using PVC materials designed for long-term exterior durability and replaced the affected decking boards around the base of the column.

This is a good example of why small signs like insect activity should never be ignored — often there is a bigger moisture or structural issue hidden behind the finish materials.

The goal is always to solve the actual problem, not just cover it up cosmetically.

Deck Rebuild Nearing Completion | Ipswich, MA

📍 Ipswich, Massachusetts
🔨 Hardwood Decking • Exterior Carpentry • Deck Rebuild

The hardwood decking is now fully installed and railing installation is underway as this Ipswich project moves closer to completion.

This project started with removal of a failing deck and deteriorated roof system below. After rebuilding and waterproofing the structure properly, the new hardwood decking is now bringing the project to life.

Every decking board was pre-oiled on all sides before installation to help protect the material long term — including areas that will no longer be accessible once completed.

The remaining work includes completion of the railing system, installation of post caps, and final painting details.

Projects like this are built in stages — structure first, waterproofing second, finish work last.

More final pictures coming soon once the project is fully completed.

Deck Rebuild in Progress | Ipswich, MA

📍 Ipswich, Massachusetts
🔨 Deck Rebuild • Waterproofing • Exterior Carpentry

After rebuilding the failing roof system below this elevated deck, the structure is now fully protected and ready for the next stage.

The new rubber roof system has been installed, and all framing members have been protected with waterproof flashing tape to help prevent long-term moisture intrusion and extend the life of the structure.

The hardwood decking for this project is also being pre-oiled on all sides before installation, helping protect areas that will no longer be accessible once the deck is complete.

Taking extra time during preparation and waterproofing stages is one of the most important parts of building exterior structures designed to last.

The goal is not just a clean finished product — but long-term durability and protection from the inside out.

Next stage: installation of the pre-finished hardwood decking.

What We Found After Opening the Roof | Ipswich, MA

📍 Ipswich, Massachusetts
🔨 Deck Rebuild • Roof Replacement • Structural Repairs

After opening up the existing roof system below the deck, we uncovered significant water damage and deterioration caused by long-term moisture exposure and failure of the existing rubber roof system.

This is exactly why proper waterproofing, flashing, and structural preparation matter on elevated decks built over living spaces.

Before any new decking goes down, the damaged materials need to be removed, the structure inspected, and the roof system rebuilt correctly to protect the space below for the long term.

These are the parts of a project homeowners rarely see — but they are some of the most important.

Proper preparation and structural integrity always come before finish work.

More updates coming as this Ipswich project moves forward.

New Project Started | Ipswich, MA

📍 Ipswich, Massachusetts
🔨 Deck Rebuild • Roof Replacement • Exterior Carpentry

We just started a new project in Ipswich involving a full deck rebuild over an existing sunroom, along with replacement of a failing rubber roof underneath.

For this project, we’re using hardwood decking, and before installation every board is being fully coated on all faces with oil finish to help protect the material from moisture exposure and improve long-term performance.

Taking the time to seal the decking properly before installation helps protect areas that won’t be accessible later and contributes to the long-term durability and stability of the project.

Proper preparation always matters — especially on elevated exterior structures exposed to weather year-round.

This is just the beginning stage of the project. More updates coming soon as the rebuild progresses.
